Phone calls to relatives HELP

Okay, I have signed up with a debt settlement company. Tonight I got a phone call from my son asking me if I am having money problems. Then he proceeded to tell me that my oldest son received a phone call asking for my contact information. Is this legal and also how did they get my sons phone number I have never used any of my children as a reference. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? Please help me.........
