legal fees.Her's the deal,i applied for membership in the same credit union that i was a member of when i filed chap 13 12 years ago.I had a car loan from them and they sent their attorney to the hearing.Anyway all was taken care of and paid according to the chapter 13 5 year plan and discharged in 2005.Now i want to become a member again and sent the required documents and a 25 dollar check.They sent the paperwork and check back with a note stating i had to pay 571.00 in legal fees before i could rejoin. isn't that illegal?I


They are stating i cannot join until i pay it,so actually they are in a way demanding it,in any case i think i will stop by the attorney i filed with back then and show it to him because once you complete your plan all debts are supposed to be discharged and not collectable,thanks for your input though.

You are asking to join...they can set their terms and deny you an account if you do not pay the costs. It all comes down to membership. Credit Unions are responsible to their membership...allowing you to rejoin when you filed bankrutpcy on them is not being responsible to their membership. Find another credit union or bank if you do not wish to pay it.
Sure you can ask your attorney but he will tell you the same thing.
