However, if you settled the debt, completed the tax form and it's no longer on your credit report - then I think you can treat the debt as resolved and move on.
The rule with debt is once it gets resolved on your credit, usually you are OK. Theoretically, the bank could remove the credit hit on your account for some reason if it wasn't resolved. Still, it's doubtful they would ever do it.

This is a tricky question. If the debt was incurred back in 2004-05 and you haven't received any collection effort on it, odds are the debt was written off and not pursued. In that situation, it still would show on your credit as a delinquent account/debt and be a hit moving forward.

Most don't have an early termination fee and even if it did, they would probably be willing to work with you. As was said above, call the lender and see - but don't get discouraged if there is one. Find out the terms and you may still have options.

This is because we want to encourage industry people to participate in our forums. This has been discussed earlier in this page http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/mod/another-solicitor.html

How do we know that these are industry professionals and not rip off artists??? These companies seem to pop up out of nowhere...and quite frankly, true industry professionals are not cruising credit forums during business hours soliciting new customers. Reputable dmp's have more business than they can handle due to the economy. I have a friend in MN who works for CCCS...they are generally signing up a minimum of 50 new clients a day right now which is more than they can handle. Some of these new posters are not even posting valid or correct information....they are just tolling for business. I personally do not think they should be soliciting any business in the forums...allow them to purchase an ad or add them to the list...but they should not be soliticiting in the forums.
