So sorry to see that you're dealing with this.
If this is indeed a bill collector (and, based on his rude tone, I'm led to believe that he is), they definitely broke the law by not complying with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Bill collectors are prohibited from threatening you with a lawsuit unless there is actually the intention to file suit. And, I'm sorry, but only law firms can file suit, so this man is simply trying to scare you.
If, however, this is really a process server, they can arrive at your home to serve a summons.
I suggest that you read over the pamphlet found in the link I provided so that you're properly armed when bill collectors are trying to harass you. I also suggest that you contact your creditors to see exactly what condition your accounts are so that you can know for sure whether or not any of them happen to be with law offices. This will very likely put your mind at ease.

we really need to watch this one carefully. She is posting very questionable answers here that really have me wondering what exactly she is doing here. Case in point is this thread:

She fails to inform the poster about all that is so clearly wrong with this lawsuit, and says she is "skeptical" of the poster's claim that he really doesnt owe the debt. She then says that she has NEVER seen a CA falsely claim that someone owes a debt. I would like to know what world she's living in....but anyways, she is posting very bad info here. People will read her posts and not take the proper action....in this thread, if the poster followed her advice, he would most definitely lose what is in truth a frivolous lawsuit where the only proof against him is a hearsay affidavit. We really need to watch her posting....
EDIT--in the in-thread reply to that post, I noted that she is basically fishing for business....she tells the OP:

I had to stop this mess right there--she is clearly fishing for business. If the OP had any other debts, they are completely irrelevant to this thread topic and the only reason I could see for this request is that she is in the business of trying to negotiate down people's debts for money. What other debts a person has is none of her business--she obviously was not sticking only to the debt in question in the thread and this sort of thing isnt supposed to be allowed here.
