Does anybody know anything about private student loan debt
I have a private student loan in collections in the amount of $3
I have a private student loan in collections in the amount of $38,000. The have offered for me to settle it for $28,000. My question: Can I counter offer for say $20,000? And, if I settle, does it go off my credit as "in collections?"

Doubtful that law will pass...plus you will have to be in "repayment" status for 5-7 years. Lenders are fighting it big time...if they make student loans dischargable, that will be the end of private loans.
