You may not qualify to collect the unemployment benefits if you were fired for misconduct, left the job to get married, resigned due to some illness or even if you were involved in some labor dispute. Regular benefits, as already mentioned by Nelly, will be available till 26 weeks (in most states) and there will be extended benefits during times of high unemployment.
