Me myself and I
I defaulted on a student loan over 23 years ago. I have spoken to the Department Of Education over the years and they had placed my loan on some sort of hardship status, unemployed, caring for a disabled child, living on very limited income, then divorcing with and even more limited time limited amount of income and SSI.
I have remarried, still caring for a disabled young adult and dealing with my husbands unemployment..
What do you do?

Eventually you will have to pay it! Even bankruptcy won't get you out of a student loan! If someone knows different please post but this is what I have read here several times! Soaplady seems to be very knowledgable about these things! You might PM this thread to her!

you should have consolidated with the direct loan program years ago....your payment would have been income contingent which means you would have paid little or nothing. I would still recommend doing it.
