i co-signed for my soon to be ex-daughter in laws student loan (sallie-mae) she has defaulted, and now they are calling me. i am a recent widow and have no resources to pay this. they have told me the federal government will come after me for any assets. is this true? or a scare tactic?

Unfortunately, things are different with student loan. Student loan can't be discharged even at bankruptcy.
