Being Broke

I graduated La'James Cosmetology School Oct. '08 but did not get my license. I did not get the experience I paid for. It was basically a rip off, but that's a long story. I have filed for Disability and am still waiting for a hearing. I am broke, unemployed and have no income. I won't have any money until I get my Social Security. My only hope is to win the lottery but can't even afford a ticket. I am 130 days past my default and Iowa Student Loan said I have to pay $24,986 by November or I'll be sued. Wachovia said I have to pay $3,298 by Oct. 25. Is there anything I can do?PERSONAL INFORMATION REMOVED Thank You.

For your student loan, did you apply for deferment? If this is a federal loan, it did not become due until March 09 and it then takes 270 days to default, so you would not have defaulted yet. You are entitled to up to 3 years unemployment/economic hardship deferment. Another thing....federal loans do not sue. You also might wanna look at consolidating it with the Direct Loan Program.

I actually know two people who graduated from La James and they highly recommend it. Iowa has tough standards.

Hey Justine - it may not be as bad as all that.
Yes you have a debt, but put it into perspective - if you ever buy a house, that debt will dwarf this one, and people pay off mortgages all the time! Truely, it isn't the end of the world. the key for you i think will be to get soem money coming in. just because you didn't get the qualiification doesn't mean tyou can't still get a job.
