If it wasn't a private loan, and was just being serviced by Panhandle, ask them for a forebearance. That should give you enough time to get together the money they want from you.

No, Texas Guaranteed is the guarantor for federal stafford loans...federal loans. They are not a CA. Panhandle has already filed a default claim so forebearances are not an option.
Technically yes they can do this to you. You agreed to balance in full ON DEMAND on your prom note they are giving you a month to come up with a down payment.
However, if you cannot come up with a downpayment, offer them a larger monthly payment. Rehabs is not an option..texas hasnt done them in ages cause they have no lender. You might wanna look into consolidating with Direct Loans ASAP!

If it was aquired thru your financial aid office, then it is a federal student loan probably, and Panhandle should still be able to do a forebearance.

The first notice they send out is a 30 day notice....it allows you to appeal the garnishment by entering into a repayment agreeent. If you send in the downpayment plus the monthly payments, you will not be subject to the garnishment.
