Can you really be garnished for unpaid tuition?????

I have been receiving calls from a guy stating that I owe the University of Akron tuition of $9,000 because of failing to drop my classes properly and not withdrawing from the college correctly.

I was 17 years old at the time (Fall of 2001) and thought all I had to do was clean out my portion of the dorm, advise all of my roommates that I wasn't coming back after Halloween, and just leave the campus. Also, I was failing a couple classes and was told that we were automatically kicked out of the school if we finished the 1st semester with failing grades, which I did.

Now, it's 2009 and I'm getting calls from a guy stating that unless this is repayed by putting down 10% now ($900 of which I don't have, I only bring home 1342 a month after taxes), I will be garnished my wages and my federal income tax return as well!

Is this true? Can my wages be garnished because of an unpaid school tuition? Not a federal student loan, but tuition fees. Can somebody help me please......

how about me I have a CA calling me for tuition that goes back to 1993, it's now 2009. This is the 1st I ever heard about it and I thought it was a scam. I thought I paid everything off. Isn't there a time frame where they cannot collect on old debts?
