Tax question
I live in the state of Maryland and owe around $2,000 in back tax and owe about $6,000 in Frederal tax . Does anyone know if they will work with me on a payment plan, or let me settle for less amount?. My husband gets unemployment, but he pays quite a bit in child support, so I am basically the provider right now for our family.
Thanks

As for your question, I would get in contact with both State and Federal agencies to explain your situation. They may settle for less, but I believe that generally means that you reach the agreement and immediatly pay the balance. These are 2 debts that you do not want to mess with and need to call them (the experts) for advice. The govt can do all sorts of nasty things to collect thier money and will make the worst collectors look nice in the long run.
Give them a call and I am pretty confident that they will have a new plan to help you out!
Good luck.

From what you describe you sound like a candidate for either an Offer in Compromise or having your tax debt classified as Currently Not Collectible. Either way you should get IRS Form 433A and fill it out, but DO NOT SEND IT TO THEM without having it reviewed by a CPA or Enrolled Agent (like me) who specializes in IRS Collection representation (like I do).
