Allied and Student Loans

I admit I owe debt for student loans. I had been filing for deferrments. I had been getting collection letters from NCO, but recently received a letter telling me that my student loan account was sold to Allied. One day after receiving the letter that Allied now had my account, they were calling me at work threatening wage garnishment.
After I had agreed to set up a automatic deduction plan for the next 10 months, I discovered that Allied also offset my tax refund. When I called to find out what was going on, the customer service was very unprofessional and rude.

Consumers can get help for mortgages and credit card relief, but there is virtually relief for help with government student loans, and Allied Interstate in employed by the US Dept. of Education in charge of student loan collection.

No, you loan was not sold to Allied, it was placed with them. Student loans are never sold. Allied didnt offset your refund either...your guarantor did. Since your loan was in default, the guarantor is entitled to your tax refund unless you have made the required number of payments in the right time frame as set by the guarantor.

The government backs your loans....who else would allow you to borrow money while in school and not pay them back until you leave school? How many other lenders offer deferment or forebearances like student loans do? Or cancel loans after 25 years in repayment? If took a threat of garnishment to get you paying...did you ever look into consolidating under income contingent repayment thru the department of ed?
