Do you still owe to this company? If the company has not updated your file with the bureaus, you should definitely file charges on them.
If the account has been updated and now, you wish to file a case against them, I fear that most of the fdcpa laws can't make your case stronger. But you should put your complaint against them at the local attorney general office as well as in the BBB and the FTC. It will help those people who will be making contact with this company for the first time and will come to know about some of their illegal dealings.
ya im dealing w/ em too

I also am dealing with this. My fionce got a phone call from them saying they have been trying to reach them for over a year and contacted his mother and told her her son was part of credit card fraud and so once he found out about it he called. The guy on the phone is a jerk. He is refusing to send us a bill but wants us to pay like $350. There are many holes in his story and I called a lawyer and he told me that this all sounds fishy and said I should just let them take us to court. Any advice I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
SPECTRUM BILLS
MY HUSBND RECVD BILL, PAID FIRST ONE, RECVD 2ND BILL RECNTLY, I SHREDDED IT. THEY WON'T SPEAK TO ME HIS WIFE.
Re: Sprectrum Billing
Spectrum billing services are really big ****! They keep billing my grandfather, and hes not paying the bill eventho it was "Charged" to my credit card and my card was compromised back in January. Sprectrum can go bite my **** for all I care!

Re: Spectrum Billing
By the way, for all of you that are getting nonlegit bills from Sprectrum, just put "REFUSED" on the front. They'll get the picture. And the one lady from sprecturm is such an ****, I asked her to explain the bill because I had never heard of them, and neither had my grandpa (who is 83 God bless his soul), told me to "Pay my Bill" and she hung up. So she can keep calling if she pleases, but she wont be getting any money out of me or my grandfather. Shes a bunch of crap and so is the nonlegit company! So just write "REFUSED" on the front of the bill if you dont know them in black sharpie. They will get the picture, cause I did it and I havent got a bill since then, but they keep sending literature in the mail, and I just wrote "REFUSED" on it, so I have yet so see if they will still send the crap!

RE:NikkiB
I was just reading what you said.... I talked to my mom and my uncle about your point. They DO NOT want you to have abill, nor do they want to explain the bill. Like I said, I asked the "Head" of that company, and she wouldent even explain the bill. So I told her the bill was unlegit and she got extremely upset with that, because I told her WE WERE NOT paying the bill, and then on my birthday July 28th, she forwarded the "Remaining balance" to a collection agency. I spoke to this lady alot, and I told her to stop calling our house. Fortunately it worked, so I was really excited about that. But that company keeps sending "
**** Literature" to my grandpas house. But every time I heard that woman call my house and she left a message on my answering machine, or if I got the call myself, I would get extremely upset, because she had a way of pissing me off! Im sure alot of you reading this are pissed off, cause I am just thinking about that woman and those calls. Thats one thing I WILL NOT forget!

Yes they are lying and intimidating people to extort money out of them that is not even owed that is illegal. Get back to me and let me know I am in the same situation and might need contacts top validate my claim also!
It IS illegal...
I had my lawyer look over this. He says I need to just file a lawasuit, and if its in that case, I will file one cause they shouldent do this to people. Their biggest targets are older people, because older people have the tendency to pay their bills on time. [rolls eyes]

I went to the website and typed in the ID number (on ur statement) It had all my husbands info on there. I went and changed it all. I made up a bunch of names and numbers to put on there. I wrote on the paper saying no such person lives here. REFUSED. not paying. dont know this person. and mailed it back. Havent heard anything back from them.
BBB of California
Why dont you all just file a complaint with the BBB of California? I think I might just do this, because they are starting to get a little stupied.
Scubachick089, your mostlikely not going to hear from them anymo
Scubachick089, your mostlikely not going to hear from them anymore. Also if they call you, you can tell them not to call you anymore. They basically have to listen to you after 3 times, because if they dont, and you've asked them to stop, and its after 3 times, you can take them to court, because they're breaking the law, and thats called harassment. As far as the letters with REFUSED on it, im very happy that you did that. I started doing that like back in july/early august, and here we are 3 months later, and they stopped! =]
Not sure where you're getting the 3 times take them to court fro
Not sure where you're getting the 3 times take them to court from. If you have sent them a full cease comm letter CMRRR, they can contact you 1 more time after receiving it to a) inform you they are ceasing collection efforts or b) any specific action they intend on taking ie sue. They do not have to abide by a verbal demand to stop calling.

who is she talkin' to? like seriously, you think that were idiots, when you placed a call with them. So dont call me an idiot and a pervert, because firstly, I NEVER called them! so you can shove it up your fat ass!
What Do I Do?
I received a bill from spectrum on dec. 1st 2008 for $51.38 for a erotic adult hotline number that i had supposedly called on aug. 13 2008. when i called the number to find out more about it the lady that answered the phone was extremley rude and so was the supervisor that i spoke with! i told them that i would pay them in payments just because i dont want it to hurt my credit score(which is 680) and im only 19 years old.i dont want my credit to be ruined because of this so what do i do? do i send the money or not?

No no no...do not send them anything other than a debt validation letter. Make them prove you owe it and they have the right to collect. If it shows up on your credit reports, dispute it.
spectrum billing
I am also dealing with these bologna heads. But, seems like alot of X-fiances are upset over their x's adult addictions fees! for real.
spectrum billing services
I am having a horrible time with this company. does anyone have any answers?
Spectrum Billing Services
Talking about this only creates noise without concrete results. Consult a competent person (i.e. a lawyer, a collector, etc). If they are pursuing a debt, they should have some kind of basis for this. Ask for a debt validation & move from there. No one could just collect a debt without any ground - hello! If they can't produce it, they lose out. They have 30 days to do it. On the flip side, the answers are within your midst. Ask members of the household if they made these calls before throwing any accusations. Do it right! Just my two cents.

wiseup, you should follow your name and do the same.it really doesn't matter because this place breaks the law with every call.threatening people isn't how you do anything much less collect a debt.if a person owes and wants to make arrangements what good does it do to threaten?don't give the line of bs about debtors lying.this is a bad agency and you look like a fool defending them.nuff said.

Spectrum Bill
I am also receiving bills and they are in my son's name. They say it is from a calling card ? they called and spoke to my handicap son and he gave them my son's work number. they are calling him at work and threatening him with all sorts of things and saying it was fraud. A lawsuit needs to be filed as the bill says the call was from my home phone and I don't call adult entertainment!

If you people don't call adult entertainment who does? The calls are all taped for your information. They can pull the tapes and play them for you. So if someone says that they didn't make the calls ask them to play the tapes. Did snyone try that???

oh brother.where to start.
1)this is a bottomfeeder using illegal means to collect so they won't produce a thing.
2)using supposed adult entertaiment to justify there efforts.
3)no matter what if the consumer asks for documentation the CA must comply.
this place is a class action in waiting.nothing more.

these guys are legit its spectrum is a third party collector in which the person calls the 800 number and the credit card is verifed but not charged so then they can get through and then spectrum sends a bill so somebody in the house is calling s*X lines and has to pay these bills i am one of them and it sucks so spectrum is a real and legit company

Hi everyone. What a relief to see other's are going thru this crap. My husband also made these calls as well and I could choke him for it, but...the woman would not answer my questions either. I asked her politely to explain the bill I received in MY mailbox, addressed to MY husband and she would not explain. I said fine than, you don't get paid, because I control the money. What is this company? Isn't it for sex phone lines or something? My husband won't tell me the truth as he knows I'm FURIOUS.

I am going thru all kinds of hell right now with them. They have called my mother, father, and brother saying that I am going to jail for credit card fraud. They are very persistant. I can not get them off of my back. What they do is pull up your credit report and if anyone has ever been on a loan or anything with you they can get all of their information plus anyone else connected to them. There has to be some kind of law about this. The charges are for adult phone services. They shouldn't be able to contact other people asking questions or telling your private business. If anyone has any information aboout this please e-mail me at (email address removed per site ToS. - Uncle Wulf).

Peed off guy,
Have they been in touch with you directly? If they have, then they are in violation of the FDCPA. Wait they are in violation now... They threatened you with jaiil. There is no debtors prison. That is a $1,000 per violation if I am not mistaken at least $1,000. Get your parents and sibs to get tape recorders and make sure your stater allows tape recordings. They can only call your family and friends once and that is only to ask for your address and phone number and job and that is it.
did they try and prosecute you then? im going through this i mad

OK, Sport. Take a deep breath. Sit down if you ain't already, and relax. Let your favorite Uncle Wulf explain this to you, OK?
What they are doing to you is massively illegal. There's a federal law in this country called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA, 15 USC s1692, et seq). That law governs how debt collectors operate, and defines what they are and are not allowed to do while trying to get into your pocket. If they violate the law, you can hold them accountable to the tune of $1,000.
Now then, let me list a couple of actions that debt collectors are not allowed to take. Either of these dirty deeds violates federal law, and is sufficient to have them paying you for infringing your rights as an American.
Threatening to file criminal charges (fraud, etc.)
Threatening to have you arrested, or send you to jail for a debt.
They are further not allowed to act smart-ass or get abusive, or add on any additional charges beyond a very modest interest rate permitted by state law (usually about 6%). And they want it now??? Tough stuff. They are required by the FDCPA (the law, remember) to send you a dunning letter ( letter explaining your rights and setting forth exactly what they're collecting on) within five days of their initial contact with you. Then, the law alloiws you a further thirty days in which to dispute the debt and/or demand validation of it. They are not permitted to bully you into making payment before you are aware of your rights and the facts of the debt. That's called 'overshadowing' (because it's a tactic designed to overshadow, or deny you your rights). Overshadowing is also massively illegal.
Don't take my word for it. Read for yourself. The text of the law is readily available from the FTC's website. I tried posting a link for you, but the FTC site is acting up just now. Here's a link to a copy I just posted for you on a file hosting site.
At this point, it's really up to you. You want to bend over for these cretins? Sorry, I can't help you with that. But if you want to take your life back, and keep your money in your pocket where it belongs, I can help you with that.
Give me some information, if you would, and we'll get started on cramming these scumsuckers' shifty tactics right down their throats.
What state do you live in?
When was the last time you made a payment or a charge on the account in question (not counting what they scared you into making just recently)?
This is a credit card account, right?
That's enough to get me started. I'll have some other questions as we go along. Stick to your guns, my friend. We'll get you through this together.
thanks

Let's get one thing straight at the outset: I don't want to hear about your 'wrongdoings' and such. What happens between consenting adults is none of my (or anyone else's) concern. I won't judge you for it, and I won't put up with anybody else doing it, either.
Now, on to the the financial side of this... They bill you directly? As in, through your phone bill, or what? More info, please.
Where do you live (what state)? This is important. You ought to be recording these calls, as proof of what they're doing. There are some other state-specific things I'd like to look into, as well.
They're contacting your relatives and such? Repeatedly, or just one time each? Are they telling them (the relatives) that you're going to jail for theft of services, or anything indicating that they're pursuing you for a debt? Or are they just asking how they can reach you about a 'personal matter'?
What was the name of the company operating the chat lines? This is important, so help me out if you can.
