Harassment from ACS to co-signer student loan

My husband co-signed a private Citibank student loan for a friend's daughter. The girl graduated and took a jb getting paid under the table (dental hygienist) and no only hasn't paid the loan but won't answer calls, moved, etc. Citibank turned the loan over to one collection company who called a few times, now we're getting calls from ACS ( no written notification from either). Citibank sent us an email that said that we had to repay the loan IF the student went bankrupt or died. Doesn't the collection agency have to prove that they tried to collect from the student before they sue us? Can we require the Collection agency to contact us in writing only because they are so antagonistic on the phone?

Nope....they dont have to prove anything. As co-borrower you are just as liable as the borrower. This is the drawback of private student loans. You need to get this resolved or they will sue you.

Dental hygenists are not paid under the table....they are contractors since this is an insurance billable item. No dentist is going to pay them what they earn (and hygentists earn good money!) without being able to deduct it as a business expense.

I have student loans through sallie mae I have been unable to keep up payments on due to financial difficulty. They call my cell phone (which I use for work purposes and have told them so) 7-8 times a day. I have told them they cannot call this number yet they continue. Isn't it harrassment to call repeatedly every day?
