Emblem Mastercard - Is it a scam?

I would like to know if anyone has found more information on emblem mastercard credit card program, and if they are legitimate. So far the information is really vague and simply not very helpful. I received an offer to pay an amount, then they pay an amount, then I receive a credit card through Monterey County Bank. Email me please at
email deleted per TOS rules.paulmergel with any new information. Thanks.

I would love for someone to post the terms of this card. This should include any upfront fees, any annual fees, any service fees, credit limit range and interest rate. I looked around on the net and could not find them anywhere which makes my suspicious of the deal you might get.

I do not understand the logic of a credit card helping someone pay off debt. How can using a credit card help pay off debt? You create debt when using credit not pay off debt.

Anyway, I don't know if the card is legit but my guess is the terms are probably not that great. I think it is one of those cards that requires upfront fees of a few hundred dollars to open and then you get a $300 limit or so at a high interest rate.

If you want to improve your credit score then clean up the bad debt and watch the slow pays and late pays. If you feel you need a credit card then apply for one with no application fee, no annual fee and try to keep the interest rate low. I do not have or use credit cards anymore. A debit card works as good and you will not end up in debt.

I have had my emblem card for almost three years. I first got it because I had totally messed up my credit, Jefferson Capital offered me the opportunity of paying about 50% of what I had originally owed and starting a credit account. At first it does kinda suck your card limit is less than one hundred dollars ( if I remember correctly I believe it is $97). I have had the card almost three years and almost have the limit up to $500. Now someone else might be able to do better than I did my payment history isn't the greatest. If you are given this opportunity I would sayjump on it. It's great for people whose credit is shot.

I just wanna say I had the same reservations about Emblem as any person would. My original offer came from JCS. I came across this site about a month ago and read the testimonials and decided to give it a try. Even if I didn't get the card, I would still be out of collections. It took awhile, but the card did come after paying initial agreement with JCS. So far everything is going as promised according the the agreement. JCS has reported me out of collections. Old debt is paid in full on CR and remaining balance on card. I have been making payments and Emblem is reporting paid as agreed. SO IT IS NOT A SCAM!!! I am very pleased and thankful thus far as NO other CC company was willing to help me re-establish anything! Just my 2cents. Good luck to all!

So I had a debt of about $1000 with an old credit card, jefferson capital bought that debt and told me I could pay it off @ $800 ish. once i paid down about 600 of that, I would qualify for the emblem card.

here are the terms for the card:
paydown $600 old debt to Jefferson Capital.
jefferson capital issues letter saying the account is paid in full.
a credit card is opened with monterey bank with a credit limit of approximately $20 more than the rest of the debt ($200ish) on the emblem card.
interest rate is terrible, but what do you expect? it's a high risk card.
0% interest forever on the transferred debt, which I intend to pay off as soon as I get it.
i believe there's a $35 annual fee.

just made my last payment, did it in 4 months less than the program I set up. Just wanted to clear up any questions about terms.

Not sure why someone is suggesting you not pursue a program to clear up old debt - are you shirking on debts just because the statute of limitations has run out?

This is not a scam. I received the offer from jefferson capitol and paid them off and about 4 weeks later received my card in the mail. I did not have any problems and wonder what the people did that report a problem. You have to pay the old debt off first before you get the card or at least a percent of the old debt. I wander if people paid it on time cause I did and did not have any problems. The card works fine and sometimes people do not follow the agreement, hence paying off old debt to obtain new, and then I think that is when they file reports saying its a ripoff. Try it and pay your payments on time and see what happens, and if you want to repair you credit this way it will work as long as you follow the agreement.

It is a good program if you want to clear up past debt and have a card for those things you need it for. I think the people that complain about it were late on payments or something cause I completed the program in about 2.5 months and got my card no problems.

Not a scam, I am about to sign up now. Basically paying off your old debt and convert/transfer some balance to a new fresh mastert card with 0 APR lifetime! Something I can't resist. Good luck everyone and do yourself a favor, get it and start re-building your credit card. You have to remember, this is a lifetime 0 APR!

I also signed up for the program and I paid 157.00. I get a credit limit of 200 and Have to pay another 167.50 in monthly payments. I hope this is not a scam, because I am awaiting my card, plus I gave them my account number through my bank. They only took the 157.00 dollars like they said they would. We will have to see, but I hope it is not a scam!!!!

I got this card a few months ago. I have had no problems whatsoever. They report regularly to the credit bureaus, and it has increased my score. There is NO annual fee, so those who are concerned about that can rest easy. I have now qualified for a card from another company that just a few months ago would not give me one. My only gripe with this card is that they have stopped doing any credit line increases. As my new card from the other company increases my credit limit, I may close this one, but in the meantime, I'll use it for gas (I never use $248 worth of gas in a month!).

Everyone seems to think this is a scam because it sounds too good to be true. But think about this from the cc company's point of view. You have someone who owes money and is delinquent for whatever reason. They are desperate to rebuild their credit. You offer them a credit card with no annual fee, but a high interest rate. They accept the offer. Now you have someone with a history of not paying off their credit cards. This person is likely to end up paying a LOT of interest. So it doesn't have to be a scam for them to make money. Even if some of the folks who take this deal decide to turn over a new leaf and pay it off every month (as I and a few others on this board have done), there will still be enough people who DON'T that they will make plenty of money.

I owed about $5000 on a previous card. I had worked a bit with the company, but times were tough and I fell behind again. The final balance was about $4700. I got an offer form Jefferson: pay $1200, and then they'd give me a Emblem Mastercard with $2400 credit and a balance of $1933.02. ($3100 total to be paid, which I felt was what I really owed compared to all the charges levied by the credit company.) The BEST part of the balance is that there is no finance charge so long as it gets paid on time AND it's a 1% minimum payment. I can take 8 years to pay this off and not pay huge finance fees.
It's an excellent deal if you don't have the money to negotiate for a 50% or 75% reduction on a debt and also want to re-establish credit. Also, I had worked with Jefferson to get some payments done automatically and they were very friendly and easy to work with. The lady convinced me to pay an extra $10/month and the Mastercard came immediately when I paid it off.
If you get offered the deal, take it, unless you are in bankruptcy or something and they can't give you the mastercard at all.

Okay, I have an Emblem Card also (for about 3 years now). I paid every month on time, and paid off my balance (twice), yet I still have 3 bad credit report scores. The only thing (at all) on the reports were 4 outstanding hospital bills. The statement also noted that I have no current credit cards or line of credit. When I called Emblem today to ask them why wasn't my account status being reported, their customer service person told me that they did in fact send out a reporting to the bureaus every month. After persistence over the issue that it was not on my reports, the customer service person said, "oh, we apologize. I see here that the last reporting was in 2009, we have up to 30-60 days to correct this..." Three years of nothing being reported to the bureaus but outstanding hospital bills...how is that helping to rebuild my credit? SMH As a few people already posted, they are legit and you can build credit with them, but is it with "just them"? Let's see how and if they correct this and what effect it will have on my score.

I got the card ok. I used the card. so far everything was ok. My Payee sent a check for the bill. The card company cashed the check. Lastly they never credited my account and they want more money even though I paid the bill in full. It is still 2 weeks since they cashed my check and I have the bill growing. I contacted the agency and they stated they needed proof they cashed the check. So here I am having to deal with a headache that shouldn't be a headache. They basically get to keep my money I paid them unless my payee can prove they cashed it. Please don't get yourselves into what I am dealing with. Its not worth it.

I think 'Emblem' is one of those credit cards that is used for 'high risk'/improve your credit kind of things. I know someone who has that card and they have a 250-300 limit (I think). According to my friend, the card has helped her credit quite a bit.

I too have received this card but, if most of you know whats on your credit report and no the state limits for trying to collect a debt. you wouldn't want to jump on this deal the debt they are trying to get me to pay for the card is over my states 6yr limit and is due to come off my credit report next month. If I was eager for the card I like most of you would jump on the card but, I have an unsecured credit card that has been helping my credit score for about 6months now. A paid debt is still a negative on your credit report. when I requested something in writing stating that they would totally remove the debt once I paid it they told me they couldn't remove it from my credit report but, Equifax was the one that told me to request for them to remove the debt once I paid. My debt or not I am not going to allow them to put it back on my credit report for another seven years. Yes it is a legit offer but, I would advise everyone to do there homework and see if it is going to be beneficial to your credit score in the long run.

I just received this offer today to pay off a debt form about 3 years ago, as it was a mistake on my part. I figured making a payment of $22 a month to get on it was a wise way to go. At the end of the day, I'm to get a small limit credit card in exchange for paying off a small debt form the time of my divorce. Sounds like a win-win to me!
