Need to settle!! HELP!!!
I have a student loan of only $3,069. that I have NEVER made a payment on and the loan was taken out in 98. It is a sallie Mae loan. I was young and only attended class a handful of times but did not realize I had to withdraw from school in order to fix my situation. Anyway I have not talked with them about anything ever and never made a payment. They did however recover $1200. from my tax refund. I would like to settle with them and pay this in full. Does anyone have any suggestions? Letter, Over the phone what is my best plan? Thank you!!

Ok, since your taxes where seized I can tell it is a federal loan. You will need to contact the guarantor who paid your default claim....more than likely they will refer you to the CA who is handling it.
All negotiations with student loans must be done over the phone. They will more than likely waive a portion of the collection fees. You will need to call them to find out what your total balance is with accrued interest and collection costs are before thinking about a settlement.
