HEAL (Health Education Assistance Loan) is no more available. But lots of scopes are there for medical students. Private lenders are really interested to lend money to medical students.

However; the rates of interest depend upon individual lenders and there is no certain yardstick for this purpose.

The Association of American Medical Colleges offers Medloans for medical students also. You can contact the medical college where your son is intended to take admission for this purpose.

Go for a Direct Loan, a Guaranteed Loan, or a Federal Stafford Loan. These can be big enough to cover all those medical school expenses. They are also flexible enough to be rehabilitated should you unexpectedly default. Avoid Perkins loans.
