A Dirty Way to Lure me to Call
I received an email from a friend of mine who now currently works at my old position. He tells me that a guy called and asked to speak to me. He said that the guy is dealing with the check in progress of refugees from New Orleans and he logs people's Social Security Number when they come through. He said that somebody used my name and social security number. He left a number 800-741-2100, ext. 2475 and asked me to call back.
I called and they said that I owed them money.
Never call them back! LTD Services will lie, scam, and illegally give out your information to strangers.
Do not trust LTD Service. Call a counseling agent first.

You can put a complaint against them at the FTC, BBB and the state attorney general office. But if you have any proof against them, it will be very helpful. Next time, if they call you, record the telephonic conversation and inform them that you wish to present it to your lawyer.

I have been recieving thye same calls from a Mr. Derby. He has harrassed me saying I owe a bill from 3 years ago that was paid in full. I even called the original company and they show it was paid in full too. He refuses to send me any documentation and calls repeatedly. He continues to "offer to give a lower payoff amount". I have checked my credit reports so he hasn't showed up on there. I think it is some scam. Should I be worried? how do get him to leave me alone. I tried to block the number on my phone, but i can't because it is a toll free number.

I realize that the debt has been paid in full and is appearing with this status in your credit report. But, the creditors are not willing to send you any written proof about this paid debt and a collection agency is trying to offer a settlement amount for it.
In such a situation, send a written letter to them stating that the debt has been paid in full and has been updated in your credit report. In such a case, they are trying to collect on an already paid debt and thus causing harassment. This is causing violation of the fdcpa law and if they do not stop such calls, you will be forced to take legal actions against them.
Being in the stronger side, you can inform them that you are recording all the telephonic conversations and wish to present it to your lawyer.
LTD Financial Services
Here's the best advice I can give anyone regarding LTD Financial Services - CONTACT AN ATTORNEY AND DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM. These people are trying to collect the debt of my ex-husband. We've been divorced for six years, yet they have harassed me at work, at home, and even on my cell phone. The best thing to do is to call them after hours and leave a message with the name, address, and telephone number of your attorney. Then, advise your attorney to write them a letter stating that they are to only deal with him. Otherwise, you will receive several telephone calls a day whether you deserve them or not. This is an organization of cretins and are not to be trusted. They have claimed several things that are absolutely untrue. MSN Today has several good articles regarding these debt collectors. Most times, they are trying to collect debts that are years old, and if you talk to them, it can restart the statute of limitations on the debt. BEWARE!

Hi Lois
Welcome to the forums.
Thanks for offering some valuable help to the community. It's true that LTD financial has been involving in some illegal activities and pulls out money from the people accounts. Everyone needs to be cautious when LTD people make a call at your cell phone, home or work. Sending a cease and desist letter has been supported by the Federal government and a lawsuit can be filed if they contact you after receiving your letter. Make sure that the letter is sent certified with return receipt requested.

You are correct here but I would like to make a modification in your statement. Talking to the collection agency does not restart the SOL period. The SOL is renewed only when payment is made to the account that was in default. SOL is calculated from the day the account showed date of last activity. But if you pay towards that account again, SOL is renewed from the beginning.
You have made a very smart move by involving your attorney in this process. You are always in charge of filing a class action lawsuit against LTD Financial.

Hi Monica
Welcome to the forums.
Besides, you can also use your federal powers through debt validation letter.
Ask the company to validate the debt as it is your legal right to know the true shape of the accounts. If they are holding the debt legitimately, they won't object it.
Sending a cease and desist letter through certified mail restricts the collection agency from calling you at your place of work. If they do, it will result in violation of the fdcpa law and you can take legal actions against them with the help of your lawyer.
I am anticipating that all these legal actions will help you in getting rid of such agencies with illegal practices.

I had a cleaning lady who, for years came once a week. She left last July to move to Florida. About six weeks later I started getting calls from all sorts of people looking for her because she used my home number as her work number. Once I spoke to most of the companies and explained the situation they apologised and took my number off their list. All but one: LTD Financial Services.
I actually have spoken to individuals on three separate occasions and each time they assured me they would take my number off the list - but to no avail. Two weeks ago I submitted a complaint to the Houston BBB and about a week ago they sent me email stating LTD had been contacted. Again - to no avail. Yesterday (Sunday) they called me SIX times.
What makes this even more aggravating is that most of the time they simply hang up - I can only presume because they want to hear a female voice. Yesterday I finally picked up on the sixth call - to yell at them - and I heard music - ie, I was on hold! After about 30 seconds they hung up!!!
At any rate, I thought I would provide some information to make it easier for everyone to submit complaints. If enough complaints are registered, something will get done.

Hi Rich
I am sorry to hear the problem that you are going through. LTD financial has been disturbing a lot of people on a regular note. In your case, their is no reason to further call you up, thus, it simply proves their unprofessional business.
I suggest you to record these phone calls with dates and times and along with the name of the person if you hear any. Give this proof to your lawyer and file charges against them. I hope that the legal procedure will keep this company in the best of their behavior.

I keep receiving messages at my work to call Tammy or Jose at 800-741-2100. In my opinion, you should talk to LTD Financial and resolve the matter. If you do not place the call, they might file some charges which you are not aware of and take it to the court. Seeing that you defaulted in appearing in the court (because you are not responding to their actions and not defending yourself), the judge will rule in their favor and you will have to pay heavy charges.
It is my sincere suggestion for you to place the call and ask them to give you something in writing. If you find something to dispute on the items, do it because this is the only way you can defend yourself.
Mr. Derby
LTD has called and called and called here. Yesterday I demanded to speak to this jerk's supervisor and met up with Mr. Derby who called me a thief and told me to get off his phone. And they are the ones who called me. Then this morning my caller i.d. showed that they have tried to call her 3 times this morning within a span of 10 minutes. I called Peter Baldwin (my "case" worker) and the man I spoke to yesterday prior to talking to Mr. Derby. Peter denied calling me today. Then he asked who I was...I replied that I was the thief he was talking to yesterday, surley he remembered such a diviant person as me. Peter hung up on me. So I called back...and could not get a live person...they must have tagged my phone number to go to automated phone services. After about 5 tries, I did get a live person. He claimed that the computer is dialing my number and if it happens every day, that's too bad. However they are within their legal limitations if the computer decides to dial my number every day. Evidently, the computer is above the law.
Still working on this. But I'm in offensive mode now. Not defensive mode. These people called me a thief and all sorts of things.

Well I sent a cease & desist letter to LTD Financial Services some time ago. The other day I received a letter from them stating the account had been sent back to the original creditor and that I would need to contact them. They haven't called me or anything ever again.

Hi Sharon
Welcome to the forums.
I can understand the situation that you are going through. The truth of the matter is that no company should use harassing or offensive methods while doing collections. If you have identified yourself to them and they are not giving you the necessary details of the accounts for which they are calling, you should take some legal counsel. If the computer is dialing your number, then it has to be taken off if it has no purpose. Talk to your lawyer as he will be able to give you the best advice on this matter.

I got a call from a lady named Heidi who claimed to be from LTD and she asked to speak to my wife who was at work. I asked why she was calling and she stated that they are investigating my wifes social security number. Well, I asked if someone had used it illegally and she stated that it may have and she really needed to speak to my wife. My question is this, is this just a tactic those people use to get you on the phone?

Ronald, do not disclose your wife's SSN# in any way. Once they get the SSN# using this scare tactic, they will surely misuse in all possible ways.
Next time when the company calls you, ask them the purpose for calling up your wife. It might be possible that they are trying to contact her for a past debt. If so, they should have all the necessary information including the SSN#. You don't have to disclose it to them.
Tell them that they should stop calling you at your home and you will also send a cease and desist letter for this purpose. Mention it in writing that you prefer to do all sorts of communication by mail only. Also, send a DV letter so that they can give you the details of the accounts, if they have any.
Make sure that you will send all your letters through certified mail with return receipt requested. You will have a backing of every communication done with them.

Some one with my wifes Maiden name has amased debt in school loans, phone bills and I can only imagine what else. Since my wifes maiden name is in the phone book we have started getting these debt collection calls for the past year. It goes away for a month or two and then comes back.
Once they even threatened legal action against us since we never returned their phone calls.
SO. Can I sue the pants of these people for bothering the wrong people? These calls border on harasment.
Hi dgabler Welcome to the forums. You need to handle this
Hi dgabler
Welcome to the forums.
You need to handle this situation in the proper and legal way otherwise the debt collection calls will continue at your end. Since someone has already used your wife's maiden name and acquired credit, you need to collect evidence that were used in the crime. For example, her social security number and her last name, the address/phone number that were used when the crime was committed. You need to gather some information so that the law enforcement agency can take specific legal actions.
File a police complaint at the place where this crime took place. It is very necessary to inform the matter to the police as your wife might have been a victim of identity theft.
Inform the original creditors about this identity theft. You will have to show the police case number for this purpose or sign the fraud affidavit. Send a copy of it to the collection agency as well. They are required to stop calling you after receiving your letter.
Write a letter to the credit reporting agency and inform them about this fraud. You can place your wife's file under review for fraudulent entries so that it can be challenged and ultimately removed from your file.
Cancel the accounts that you suspect to be used in doing fraud. You need to notify your financial institution about this matter so that they can take appropriate actions.

Hi emma,
Welcome to forums :D
LTD Financial Services is a collection agency. Perhaps they are trying to verify your relative's address. You can refer your relative's address to them. Or ask your relative directly to follow up the matter. So if they call again, explain the case to them. Hope this would solve the problem.
However, if they come up with an aggressive image in future and start harassing you, send them a cease and desist letter through CMRRR. You can get more info on LTD here-

We have been receiving nasty calls from these people (Mr. McNerry and his pleasant friends) for months, for a bill we do not owe. Today we received a call that is a recording telling us we have an "important call", but that we need to call the following number (1-800-741-2100). They assure you that it isn't a sales call and that it is very important you call back. They repeat the number 3 times and lucky for you, "if you missed it the message will repeat it self". They do not state who they are or what the call is in reference to. Good thing we Googled it and found this site.

They are 2nd collection agency contacting us on sme debt.

Usually, even after the debt gets paid, a collection agency contacts because they found the account still unpaid in your credit report or the creditor hired them to collect the money from you. It was the duty of the agency whom you paid the account earlier to update your file with the creditor and the credit bureau. Since they have not contacted and updated your file, you are still forced to pay the same debt which has already been paid by you.
You need to contact them whom you paid this account. Send a formal letter explaining that your credit ratings are being hurt because of their failure to report to your creditors. Thus, they need to do the needful and send you a confirmation letter in writing. The updates done in your credit report will be reflected in the next 30 days.
Explain the same situation to LTD financial services but before you do so, first ask them to validate the account. You first need to know if they are really having your account or just making a blind call. Send a debt validation letter to the company's mailing address through certified mail.

LTD keeps on bugging me
I got a call several months ago they said I owed money on a closed account. I thought I took the proper action and wrote to them explaining that I never had a card ending in the numbers they claim. They replied that it had been sent back to the original debtor. I thought the matter was done until "Charity" called me today stating that I owed this amount and since it had my name, address and SS# it must be my debt and I should take care of it. I told her to send me something in writing and I would reply. I am tired of this and when I went over my records, I have NEVER had a card with the number they are claiming I owe for. Any one have any suggestions?

Deborah
I wonder if someone has tried to open an account using your ssn#. Check your credit report immediately and see if the said account has been put in your file. If you find anything suspicious, dispute with the bureau requesting the results of the investigation. Meanwhile, you can ask the company also to give the details in writing. It is your legal right to get the itemized statement of the account.
Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. Keep everything documented in a file for records.

These little **** retentive morons call my house everyday, usually at least twice! I went online to check the phone number because their auto-dialer usually hangs up on me when I do answer the call. Does anyone have an idea of who their clients are? For those of you who have a valid complaint you can file a complaint online with the FTC (Federal Trade Comission). For example: Collections Companies can only call debtors between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm (debtors time zone) and may not call more than once a day (harrasment), unless you do not answer the call. These are just a few of the things they must abide by, and can be fined for if they disregard these rules. Know your rights!

Yup they will try anything to get information out of you. I have no idea who they are or why they call my old phone number from 8 years ago. I call them back late at night and ask them to call me back between 1 am and 5 am, my filed investigation position with the IRS does not allow me to keep normal hours please give me an after hours phone number and your personal identification number.

I came home today to a message on my answering machine from Chris Derby telling me to call back as soon as possible because it was very important. He left the number 1-800-741-2100 x2345.
I called back, gave him my name, and he said he had to pull up my information... then he said something about the computer being slow and within seconds the call was disconnected. I did not receive a call back.
I became concerned when this happened, and then after reading these posts and hearing the stories of others, it frustrates me to think that this man can be calling, leaving different extensions, trying to collect debts that no longer exist.

I received a phone call today from Nathan from LTD. He was asking for my mother. I called him back to say he had the wrong number. I was told that my home number was an alternate phone number for my mother and that I could only talk with them if they got the "OK" from my mother. I'm afraid that "Nathan" will harass me. I cannot get into trouble can I? Is there anything I can do to stop them from calling me?

1 800 741-2100 SCAM!!!
Under NO circumstances should anyone return a call to any outfit calling with a toll free number, claiming that you need to return their call FOR ANY REASON! Any LEGITIMATE collection agency will contact an individual VIA THE US POST OFFICE, in a letter -- often, registered mail. These calls that come in from someone posing as a collection agent, or even as a representative from a law firm saying they have some payment FOR you, are BOGUS!!!! They are just phone 'phishing' scams, and if you call back, you're very likely to be the victim of some ID theft or credit scam.
1 800 741-2100 SCAM Post Script ...
PS on this 'phishing' scam. I received a call this morning, and a message was left on my machine. Curiously, the caller's name, and the company he was claiming to represent, were 'garbled' (specifically, made 'nasal'; I'm guessing the caller was holding his finger against a nostril, when stating his name and the name of the company he was representing ...), but the number, 1-800-741-2100, and the extension 2303, were perfectly clear, as was the advice that the call was 'urgent' and the number to return the call was toll-free. Nowhere in the message did the caller state clearly who the call was for -- that information was also 'garbled' (and trust me, as everything about RETURNING the call was clear, it was neither a problem with the call's connection, or my machine!!!)
Again, any LEGITIMATE collection agency will MAIL a request for payment, and any LEGITIMATE legal firm will MAIL advice regarding any contact they wish, from you. AVOID RETURNING ANY 'Toll Free' calls, whatsoever. LEGITIMATE firms do NOT use such methods for either debt collection, or for adivising individuals of any financial gain due them.
