tax rebate question

Ok, so I'm on a payment plan with the IRS, but I did get one of those letters letting me know about the rebate, so does that still mean I won't get the rebate, it will go to my balance? Thanks Reny

I got this information from the IRS site. :

Q. I'm eligible for a payment but I still owe federal income tax from a prior year. Will my payment be reduced?

A. Yes. For this purpose, the Stimulus Payment is treated like any other tax refund. This means that part or all of your payment can be used to pay past-due federal or state income taxes or non-tax federal debt such as student loans and child support.

Shazzers...thanks for posting that...that is corect. However, if you are actually on a formal plan, not just "owe", there is a chance you can get the stimulus. I called the IRS last month, and they said if you got the letter, there is a good chance you'll get the payment in hand if you are on a plan. But as I said, I wont believe it until I have the $$.

I like that idea way better than the info I retrieved from the IRS site. :D

LADYBUG...how could your friend file for all of those 'exemptions'? Did she do her taxes herself? Did she have a company do them for her? WOW!! I would think someone would 'catch it' sooner or later.
