private student loans

i got a student loan 8 years ago from a private company with a cosigner,since then the private firm has went bankrupt,,it then went to wells fargo,,and now that i have defaulted,has went to a wells fargo collector,,my question is can they still go after my cosigner? thank you

My co-signor gets repeated phone calls daily also, if it is not there on the 28th they start calling. PIA if you ask me.

I once told the guy they were worse than the mob (LOL), no seriously you have to make sure that you pay it on time or call them ahead of time so they can make a note in your file about it.

My husband cosigned a citibank private loan for a friend's daughter. She works but gets paid under the table and now the collection agencies are harassing us. Citibank sent us an email stating that we would be required to pay the loan IF the student died or went bankrupt. No one is trying to get the money from the student.

yeah co-signing is definately something a person should do plenty of research about ahead of time. My co-signer and I are no longer on speaking terms because I ran into some financial trouble last year and couldn't make my payments on time so they came after him.

Now I'm back in the good and even got AES to lower my interest rate and monthly payments, but the damage to my co-signers credit for the late payments really hurt him.

recently the sheriffs department has showed up at my cosigners door,wanting her to come down and sign some papers,we are being sued by Arrowood Indemnity who has turned it over to Buffaloe and Associates,a lawyer firm out of Nashville TN,I have contacted them and made verbal agreement to pay 300.00 monthly untill paid in full.law firm told me if i dont default on the 300.00 per month that my cosigner would be protected,the sherriffs department never showed up at my door, they didnt know my address or my phone number,i contacted sherriffs dept and they said they would return papers to be sent to me and the very next day returned to my cosigners,we live 80 miles apart,my question is are they messing with me and plan on suing my cosigner anyway and should i go to court before i start making these 300.00 per month payments? thanks

what if the co-signer died, expired, can they still come after the CO-SIGNERS estate as well as the borrower?

it very frustrating. I co-signed my son's loans. I know he will pay - He has a high paying job in the medical field and he has always been very trustworthy. It is frustrating because he could NOT have gone to school with out the co-sign. My only regret is that I did not think about that his loans would affect my debt to income ratio. I have over 800 FICO and I can't refinance my mortgage, even though I have excellent credit. Just something to consider when you choose to co-sign.

My father co signed for my daughters student loans, he has recently passed away. The girls are repaying the loans now and have never been late or defaulted. Can they make my dads estate pay these loans in full or will they just continue with the girls paying them since the loans are in there name?
