In the scheme of things, that's not all that bad; I've seen people who owe over $12K to the IRS in back taxes.
That's probably just a warning letter telling you if you don't resolve it then they will go "to the next level." Call them, take care of the balance and everything should be okay.

I am glad that it wasn't really bad news. I always get so scared when we have to go pick up a letter at the post office. But most of the time it isn't that bad. Just be thankful that it isn't a huge amount that you still owe them.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't as bad as you thought it was, but I can definitely relate to how you felt. I've been in your shoes before with the IRS, you can't be even a day late on a payment or they consider it a default. Boy did I learn the hard way. I don't know if that's (installment loan guidelines) changed now or not, when I had my installment loan it was quite a few years ago. Anyway, glad it worked out for you.

That is good news for you-that it wasn't more serious. I have made payments to them in the past and they were easy to work with. Just make sure that you pay this off in time, or they will take action, if nothing else, take your tax return.
I had a friend that didn't respond to them and they finally levied their bank account until they took care of it--but it was a larger amount than yours.
