Identity Theft

hi jos! a truly good piece of advice for the people out there. and not only does one needs to be careful regarding the credit report, you should also keep a track on all the basic expenses in the household. it may not be much, not even as serious as debts or identity thefts, but if there is a secret addict around who goes on spending slowly but steadily, even that amounts to a lot in the long run.

I seen this lady on one of the talk shows, she actually stole her mothers identity and had a ton of plastic surgery done.

I have had friends that their children have stolen their debt cards and they have cleaned out their bank accounts for drugs, leaving them in a financial mess. Not the same as identity theft, but it is still theft.

If you think about it though it is the ones in our households that know the most about us and would have access to this information so it would be easier for them to do this than a stranger. Addicts are very unpredictable, I don't think it is there intention to hurt a family member but they ultimately do in the long run. It is really hard to trust an addict.

I should probably be more on the look out on my own credit report, but I always put it on the back-burner. I do know that as of a few months ago, no one had "hacked" into my identity. It is wise to keep tabs of your credit though so if it happens you can hurry and get it fixed.

I am having an issue...thought it was dealt with but its not. There is another person with my same first name, and their ssn# is one-digit off from mine (the last digit). Of course, this person has terrible credit and its getting worse.

So....dealing with that right now.

Volley-- that sounds like a real pain!
My mom had something similiar happen to her. It was basically because her first, middle and last name combination is very popular-- and her credit reports were always getting screwed up.

I was thinking it may be a good idea to change your social security number volleyball, but the only way that I can see on the social security website is if you are a victim of domestic violence, and you have to show proof of it to get the new number.

umm yea...the random avatars are very, well random :lol: Ya know you can pick your own and add it to your profile so you dont end up with a default avatar.

I thought about changing my ssn, but yea, it will be a pain. I just check my report and disput things all the time. When we bought our first house, we had to do abuot 5 conference calls with creditors showing up on my report that were not mine, but the other persons.

Sometimes I feel like calling her...its been proven that it was one of her credit accounts that mis-keyed the last digit, not one of mine.
