Update on success with United Cash Loans and need advice
Also interesting to note, the refund says TFS corporation. I had heard about a number of d/b/a's before for UCL, but not that one.
Here's what I need advice about: how should I cash this check? I have a sneaky suspicion that it is a trojan horse and these people are trying to get my account number on the cashed check.

I actually had the same question because I am picking up my check from the Loan Shop today(it's at the post office-it came certified) and I am was wondering if there is some way that they will be able to get my account information once I deposit the check. Has anyone had refund checks and if so, how did you handle them?

I've just gotta say that it sure feels great to have this problem- instead of worrying about money being taken out of our accounts, we're worried about how to cash THEIR checks!

Just in case anyone is in the same situation, I thought I'd let you know that I took the check to a branch of the issuing bank and they were willing to cash it for a $5 fee. I figured the fee is worth the peace of mind I get from knowing they won't get my new account number.

You can take it to the issuing bank, if possible, and just pay the small fee to have it cashed. If there is no bank in your area that is the "issuing bank", you can take it to a liquor store or somewhere else (pawn shop?) that does NOT write your information on the back and for a fee, they will cash it. Do NOT take it to your bank to cash it. Some places, like the liquor store, etc., will just have you endorse the back and write your phone number on it (so make up a phone number if you have to) and you just have to show them your license.
