Well the only reason i even thought of calling them is for my own curiosity!! But before i do that i will make sure to be able to tape the conversation and i will NOT call from my home phone!
But if they're trying to find me using my maiden name they will have a hard time finding me!!!! Like i said i haven't used my maiden name in over 23 years!

Don't pay them a penney!!
Probably what happened is, that someone that has your first name and maiden name took out a credit card, loan etc., . What I am trying to say is- they skip trace all the time. I had someone call for my husband they said-exact same first and last name. I knew he didn't have anything with them, and after talking with them found out they called our number because of the same last name-nothing more. And it turned out that someone had exactly the same first and last name as him!
Someone, ironically, has the same first and maiden name as you, so in their skip tracing, found your brothers name, since his name was the same as yours--Good grief- I have confused my self  Anyway-don't pay and don't worry. Your brother can say that he doesn't know anyone by that name- which he doesn't anymore!!..karen

That's EXACTLY what i told him kar! Tell them u do NOT know me which isn't a lie cuz i'm NOT that last name anymore and haven't been in a very long time. It actually sounded really weird to hear someone ask for me by that name as i haven't used it in almost a quarter of a century! YIKES, now that sounds like a LONG time!

It's probably a good thing that yu have credit monitor- just in case someone is trying to pull a fast one and use your name!!

Ya know Kar i never thought about this could be someone with the same name as me (my maiden name that is)! I bet that's what it is....
Ahh well as long as it's NOT on my credit report i'm not gonna worry too much about it... i'm more curious than anything else!

Hmm. URS. The company I work for.. wel get a lot of people from that company sometimes. They don't last long but with that being said I've heard good and bad.
They are attempting to skiptrace you. If they just started it isn't going to be long before they do find your married name unless they think you are divorced. That is if it is even you they are looking for and not someone similar.
Call them from a payphone and ask them what's going on. It's nothing that is going to hurt expecially if it is mistaken identity.

Well FYI even IF it is me they're looking for obviously it's a VERY old whatever it is... I haven't been my maiden name in 23 years!! And I can guarantee u i do NOT owe a thing from that long ago! That's when i was in college and i have NO student loans, had only ONE credit card from my employer at the time which was paid off when i quit and i had NO medical. The only thing i did have was a telephone in my name and it just happens to be the same one my brother is now using, same number and all... so???

Recently I got a call from a number which, as I found later, traces back to that company. The caller stated there was an urgent need for them to get in touch with my neighbor next door.
He wanted to be called back by the neighbor.
Talk about abuse of trust (not to mention violating the law).
A cursory search reveals that it's a common
pratice for URS to contact third parties.

I absolutely HATE this company!
The first time we heard of them, it was a message left on my parents phone saying my husband needed to call them back and THEY WERE NOT PLAYING GAMES!
The phone call my husband and I had back to the jerks was awful. I wish I had seen this site before we called them. He made us feel like garbage because we have so many medical bills because dr.s can't figure out what is wrong with my husband.
I am sure they are charging us way more than the original bill, and I have already sent 3 payments....can I still ask for proof of the orginal bill? When we asked for a statement, they just sent the same letter they sent the first time with their crap on it.
I am so upset with this company, I wish there was something I could do.
you still owe it why not pay
thats whats wrong with America people not wanting to pay there bills,, a bunch of dead beats thats why people like myself have lower limits and higher rates because of dead beats!!! banks got tarp to cover the loss,, and who could blame the banks,, its your bill pay it,, United re sys is just trying to get for the banks what is owed,, so that great bill paying people like myself,,,,, can keep our great lines of credit without all the crap,, you wanna know something else collections companys dont buy it,, the banks only pay some and thats only if they collect,, if not then it bounces to the next agency,, and with the new bill being passed,, your kids collage could go down the drain if you dont have the money up front or if you dont have a great credit score,, under 21 and your not getting a credit card without mom or dad being a so called co signer,, so keep on running,,, your going to end up paying for it in the end... Good paying americans wants dead beats to own up...

Peacefullangie - how naive you are. It's not the debt it is greed, pocketing off your welfare. Your day will come and you will see what it is all about - you will be on ontime payor and whammo you will be default - will you fix it - hardly - you will find you are in collections and have hell removing it. It's not about paying it is about sabotaging for profit.

This company started calling my parents as well, who I have not lived w/ in 8 years. They used my married name, I'm divorced. Left 4 messages in 1 day, you could not understand in the messages WHERE they were calling from, I had to reverse phone search. They are trying to collect on me for Citi Bank for sure, I am declaring bankruptcy, so they can talk to my lawyer, not me.

Why not just give them your bankruptcy information. It is sad that they have to skip trace to find you and they wouldn't have to if you didn't have something to hide. Now someone who has a not so fun job that gets cursed at every day get to waste time on people like you that aren't actually worth the effort.

Allot of other comments I found to be silly as well. Many just because they don't recognize that they have debt think they're best option is to let collectors call without a response. Hypothetically what if there was an identity theft. Wouldn't the collection company be able to verify the information and compare to the file they have and determine if a fraudulent account exists. Yes there could be a case of mistaken identity due to skip tracing but it is better to call and realize that there was a mistake than to not call and have bad credit in these cases.

This is really silly, unless you work for the company than you do not know what you are talking about, there is a funny saying that you know when someone is a true debtor when they hide from collection agencies. As posted by Anonymous , they are very correct. The person on the debt collector position who is calling you.. is doing their job. there is a lot of time and stress in a collectors job. They must follow FDCPA, listen to others problems, try to be a problem solver, and then get screamed and cursed at by a random person who is upset because they called them asking them to pay their bills. URS is a good company and has a pretty good reputation, They do not buy debt, the are the collection agency hired by the client "COMANY YOU OWE MONEY TO", they get paid a salary for what they do, and do not benefit for wether or not you pay your bill. No point on being rude to someone who has to deal with people who scream at them all day.. for only doing their job.

I think it's so funny that people can point the finger and call
I think it's so funny that people can point the finger and call someone a deadbeat for not paying their bills--in a span of a week, I lost my job due to illness and my husband left me-so I lost all sources of income. I was clearing almost 80K and paid ALL My bills every month, most of the time in full. Now, I make 15K a year and can't even keep up with the necessities of life let alone the credit card debt. My ex is refusing to pay for anything, so I am left holding the bag. How does that make me a deadbeat? Oh, and I have also spoken with the CC companies DIRECTLY when this happened---and they refused to make any arrangements.
Just remember that when the big companies suddenly couldn't pay
Just remember that when the big companies suddenly couldn't pay THEIR bills THEY got a bailout from the government....seems to me these companies are the deadbeats with a hand out for money. It is total BS...where is the average citizen's bailout when they get hit with hard times?
Not to mention that credit card companies make a habit of waiting for someone to charge up a lot and THEN raise the interest rate through the roof FOR NO REASON and despite the fact people used the card at the old rate, suddenly they have to pay the high rate after the fact. AND this is just one low down tactic these companies use.....sure, you can whine and say that if they didn't like the terms they should not have gotten the card that they knew the terms could change at any time, but most people didn't think the card would suddenly screw them that badly and for no reason at all....
Oh and most times people duck the collectors because these collectors abuse them over the phone. If they were polite, many people would be polite back.
Goldenbast-you stated exactly why I have NO sympathy for ANYONE
Goldenbast-you stated exactly why I have NO sympathy for ANYONE who works for bottom feeders, or for any bank, credit card company anything like that period! Big business writes off losses on their taxes and it does not hurt them in the least and then they get bailouts from the government WITH MY tax dollars. Then they screw over anyone with problems and basically tell them "tough shit". I filed bankrupt for most of the exact reasons as the person above you and NO ONE cared. I did what I could and then ended up filing bankrupt and I have NO REGRETS whatsoever for any company that got screwed by me, NONE! Business does NOT care about the real working class public so I do NOT care if they are hurting either. If they stop raising rates to where the average worker could never afford they maybe they would get their money back.

they are real
We moved recently and just had them call us. I called them back to have them taken off the call list, thinking they were a telemarketer and then they asked about a family member they were trying to track down. it was legit. this family member owed money, didn't pay, now they have this collection agency after them.. who knows how they got our name/number but they are sure good at tracking folks down. scary
