My debt is now sold to Certegy
I'm just found out that something semi-illegal might have occured but trying to find out if something similar has happenned to someone else.
While I did wind up bouncing checks because notifications by mail weren't reaching me, I know I broke law but technically it was unintentional. Now the original company did two things: 1. reported it to police although 2. they also sold debt to certegy.
It seems to me that both things are not possible concurrently. How can they orginial company file as a victim of a bad check when they have gotten paid by the another company (certegy) for that check?
Just curious if there's anyone else had something like this happen to them. What happens now? I've paid certegy but since they aren't original company, who will tell police it's paid? Thanks for the advice.

Hi supermom
When you debt is sold to the collection agency, the creditors will not have any hold in it and you will have to make all the necessary dealings with the said collection agency only.
You should get receipts of all the payments made to the collection agency and keep reporting the same to the police also so that they are informed.
In this way, every hard effort made from your side will be shown in your credit file after the payments are complete and you will be able maintain your financial worthiness once again.

Supermom2005, that is very interesting to know. How did you find out that it had been reported to the police? Did you receive something from the State Attorneys office in your state? I have been gulity of this as well, but I was able to make payment to the store that I bounced with. Keep us posted so that we can all benefit from your experience.

Although bouncing checks is illegal, it's something has happened to most of us. The police usually won't do anything about it unless your bank calls them and says something about it. Usually it's your bank who will get concerned about it when they receive 4 bounced checks from various electronic companies....etc.
I'd call your local police department and verify what happens when you have (go into detail) done what you've done.
You can do this without devuldging much information about yourself/home address...etc.

Thats very interesting. Something that we should all watch out for. Most of us in the community live paycheck to paycheck, so to think about the police being involved is quite scary. A lot of times it happens as a domino affect. maybe we forget to log a check or something like that and it just goes on from there. I have for the most part always been in communication with my bank. I also have overdraft protection (and didnt know it)
hi supermom 2005

If a check that you wrote somewhere uses certegy, you will be reported. Certegy pays the bad check youwrote so now you owe certegy. Same as if it were telecheck or any other type of check system. So you may need to get with certegy make payments with them so that your standing can be reinstated.
Certegy
Certegy received bad checks that I wrote and sent me notice.
I immediately send them a Cashier's check for the amount they requested.
Then they RESUBMITTED the checks again and they cleared.
Guess what?
Certegy now has Twice the amount owed to the original business.
RIPOFF RIPOFF RIPOFF
This happened in June and I still have not received my refund.
Prediction: Class Action Suit sometime in the near future
