Consider to pay your medical bills through the consolidation program in easy monthly installments as you will have to pay it in anyway.

Please do not let this account go to the collections further as it will leave a negative marking in your credit report for the next seven years.

I use to work in the patient accounts side of billing for hospitals. What most people don't know is that you could probably get a charitable write-off.

You need to tell them that you cannot afford this bill. If you could, you probably would have insurance. You also need to tell them that you need help. Be sure you say that you cannot afford it, and that you need help.

Inquire about the charitable write-off. They have options once when you ask for help.

Thanks Mikey! I, too, didn't know about that!
Medical bills are tricky...you never know what insurance will and won't cover. I'm in the process of getting a bunch of orthodontic work done. My total bill came to about $5600, but I am paying it off in $200 monthly installments, which i worked out with the docs. Doctors and other medical fields are usually willing to cooperate with people that can't just cough up thousands of dollars at once.

Also hospitals know of other programs to help you pay medical bills. But even 1k is a bit high for just the visit, did you check the bill and see what all they were charging? Sometimes they make mistakes that are easily cleared up just by bringing it to thier attention.

Just remember that medical is one of the most common bills to get defaulted on, so they have a high incentive to work with you....most of the time people just blow off medical bills because they are so high.
