Someone keeps calling me and harasses me

Keep getting calls from 866-207-8184 and 718-647-3983. The 866 # is looking for someone with my husbands name but Different middle initial. I KEEP telling them this, but they continually call!!

The 718-647-3983 # comes showing their name as just N.Y. But when you try to call it back, it is a DISCONNECTED #!!! The guy who called from it told me his name was 'Sam' from 'American Lending'. Never heard of them.

The same thing happened to us just a couple of months ago with a 602 area code # that kept calling us numerous times. When you tried calling it back (IMMEDIATELY, by the way), recording said it was a Disconnected #! How can it be Legal for this 602 area code and this 718 # to transmit onto your Caller ID somehow, a ph. # that is not even legitimate???

HOW do I get these to stop?? They OBVIOUSLY have the wrong person. We have a Very high Creidt score and are overdue on NOTHING! We have told them over & over again they have the wrong party. They even got my cell # off our answering machine once and now call that too!

I do not know how to get through to them that they have the wrong person!! And usually cannot even find out who they really are because I am the wife and they ask for my husbands name.(so they basically tell me nothing, or they just simply hang up on me!)

I want them to STOP and to figure out for themselves how to call the REAL person they are looking for!! Not to just pick a similar name & then to harass us!

Please tell me what I can do? How can I get more info. from them or make them Stop?? It's like they're the 'Invisible Man' or something!

Hi

I guess since you don't have any specific information about this person except that he is calling from 'American Lending', you can request him to provide the mailing information of the company so that you can do future correspondence.

This way, you will be able to acquire the address of the company and send a letter explaining your issue.

Regards
Roxette

My husband and I have been getting calls from the same 718 number. Every time we answer the phone, though, the line is silent for a minute or so and then they hang up. When we call it back, it does say it's not in service. We were recently scammed by a company who pretended to offer us a loan in order to get money out of us, so we thought it might have to do with that. We've been thinking of changing our number since it's gotten so bad. Please let me know if you find anything else out.

There is a device out there, the developer claims is for Law Enforcemnent use only (but hey this is the good ole' US of A and if someone wants to give their money, someone else is always selling). The deivsie allows the user to change the Caller ID information which is dispalyed on a receiving phone or CID unit. For example , they could have the caller ID say its your mom calling, when in fact its a bill collector. I think this is highly un ethical and the FTC needs to propose legislation to block this before it starts, but lets face it they probably won't.

You can do a search for Caller ID Spoofing.

Wow...amazing what money can buy. Maybe changing our number isn't such a bad idea after all. We've never been harassed, per se, but I'm concered about whomever is calling selling our number to others. We finally got most of the bill collectors off our back and were able to answer the phone without looking at the caller ID....I hate being nervous when the phone rings!

they probably have their phones transfered to another phone number. Most collection companies are on dialer systems, or because they have a large group of people calling out, and don't want their direct line showing...it would be a generic company number that's suppose to work.

...however it soemtimes doesn't.

like sickofit, people is call and hang up on me and my husband.after that a girl speaks, that she is looking for her father with same name of my husband.my husband and me,try to help her but she hang up.i try to locate her telephone;402-517 9978 ,maybe other state and the computer, this wonderful friend, told me was a pre paid card of att,and the list goes on.numbers reports include:720-587-9978;404-461-9978;402-5179978;412200-9978;4122309978;312-7309978."you'll notice that they are end in 9978."a message recorded-"you are returning a calling to apre paid calling service system, and the system andthe party that called you can not be reached at this number.i really like people with feelings and i dont like to see good people sad.if my husband was a father,i really treat this girl like mother, because i hate people with no feelings.but you see this girl dont want to be found.

402-Omaha Nebraska, 720= Denver Colorado; 404=Atlanta, GA; 412 Pittsburgh, PA;312-Chicago, IL.

Often times, calling cards will display a number which is just the number of the switching station the call was routed through. For example a person may be calling you from say Chicago Illinois, but the Caller ID may route throuh Pittsburgh. That person could call you back a few minutes later and this time it may come through Denver.
There is no reasoning for this, it's just the way the call was routed.

There is no easy way to determine a persons location by phone number if they are using a calling card.

The same thing happens to me!!! They keep calling my cell phone asking of Janet, which I'm not. When I try to call back it says that I can't call back the number. They called this morning, on SATURDAY, at 5 in the MORNING!! Sometimes it makes me cry because they will call at early hours of the morning after I have stayed up late studying for an exam. I am about to go and just try to change me number :(
