Bank absolutely refused...
I had to do a 'take charge plan' with the bank..they took a 10% payment on the 970, then broke up the rest over 12 month payments to save the account. Now it is zeroed out...but....The whole nasty cycle will start again with the dang multiple daily hits....couldn't close out the account because of direct deposit..but finally after going around and around got the account closed with a promise to transfer the direct deposit when it tries to come in on the closed account.
Bah

This NSF is a nasty cycle with these payday lenders, it prohibits you from getting out of the hole. Shouldn't this stop with the bank closing the account or are they going on the 30 day deal that if something comes in with in 30 days of closing the account, it would be accepted. I think closed should mean closed. Goodluck with this situation, hopefully the bank will honor it's promise to transfer your direct deposit over to the new account.

Golden, I am glad that the bank finally did work with you, and closed your account. I wish however that you opened up a new account at a different bank. You can tell your HR to change your direct deposuit to a new bank. It is a much safer way to go. It is sometimes easier for a PDL to find your new info if it is at the same bank. Also , sometimes the bank will link the new account and the old account together. If a PDL hits the old , the bank will pay it with funds from the old. Also, there may be a clerical error, if something comes thru on the old they will mistake it foe the new.(I am rambling). If your new account is at a different bank, it is safer. Please consider switching yiur account.

Yeah I have considered it actually, but don't think I can as I messed up a bank account in the past and it is still biting me on the butt. This account is a 'second chance checking'. I did get a promise that it doesn't matter what comes in, this account is closed and my new account will not be touched at all. Had the bank managers assurance on that.

Are you in Chex?I still would try to persue a new bank.I know I beat this issue to death, but I would rather be safe than sorry. I am real paranoid regarding banks, and even tho my account is at a completely different bank, I still check it daily on line.
I haven't tried anytime recently..just last year. What is Chex?
I haven't tried anytime recently..just last year. What is Chex? I do check my account daily..heck..I have gotten to the point where I check it multiple times a day fearing for a new NSF charge

I hear you Golden, I check mine several times a day too. But please listen to everyone's advice and try to open an acount at a new bank. You can do it online to make it easier if you like.

Chex system is a data base that banks use when you apply for a checking account. It tells the bank if another bank has reported you for negative activity on a previou account. As an example, if your bank closed your account because you had a negative balance. It is called being closed with cause.. So the new bank sees that you were not responsible handling your previous account, and they will not open a new account for you. You remain on chex system for 5 years. If you are on chex, Goudah has a list by state of banks that do not use chex.

Do not ever apply for another PDL or they may get your new account information that way. They all work together and I know share information.

Another thing to remember is that never agree to pay them with your new checking account information, they will use it to continue collecting as they see fit, always do a money order to the company(ies) they will tell you no but if you persist and they want your money you will be able to do it that way.

Can't you ask your employer to stop your direct deposit and give you an actual check, until further notice? That's what I did, so I don't have to worry about any one getting my cash. Once I straighten out the mess I got myself in, I'll go back to direct deposit.

Yes, unfortunately they said that to stop direct deposit woul delay the paper check until the 15th (get paid once a month on the 1st) that would be financial ruin for us with rent and the majority of our bills all in the first week of the month. Also asked about transfering the DD to a new account, but that takes 2 months...so we stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Well have them stop the direct deposit after you get paid on the 1st, that should be sufficent time for the next check to be cut in paper and paid to you on time next month.

What if you go ahead and stop direct deposit, wait till the 15th and get your check. Maybe you could talk to the people about the bills due in the first week of the month and get them to give you a little more time, 2 weeks isn't that much to ask, and even if you have to pay late fees maybe it's better then all the NSF fees.

Unfortunately that is when we asked to do it and got told that it didn't matter when it got put in, that we wouldn't receive a paper check till the 15th. You'd think the state would process things a bit faster eh? (hubby works for the state).
So far so good, I know our old account got hit today and nothing was forced open and nothing got to our new account....keeping my fingers crossed.

No...our landlord is very adamant about his rent..it must be on the 1st and not a day late. Plus, we have only been here for a month and it just wouldn't look good at all to ask to hold off for half the month.
almost all our bills are already a month behind because of everything going on, if we put off paying the lates we would start getting disconnect notices.

You will have a tight couple of months but if you stick to a strict budget you will get out of this. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, even if you can't quite see it just yet.

Thank you for the encouragement. The PDL is only the tip of the iceberg, pretty much everything has gone wrong and sometimes it seems like we are in a big hole and the top is a tiny pinprick.
But, I refuse to give up and I will make payment arrangements with everyone that I know I can afford, if they like it or not. If they refuse my settlement offers (and I will be sending them cmrr to show good faith and that I am trying) well, then they can just wait for me to pay off the ones who will work with me.

You may be okay with the paycheck . . . . If your bank does keep the old account closed, and the new account completly seperate, then it could work out. The bank will put the direct deposit into the new account, right?
Some bank managers should be shot for there horrible practices.

I don't know what state your hubby works for but I too am a state employee and if we get our paperwork in by like the 6th of the month for a change on our paycheck(taxes direct deposit etc) the change will be effective on our next paycheck, it would be worth maybe double checking.

He works for the state of Texas...I will have him check once more, maybe if we put it in this early they will be able to do it by next payday.
Im so stressed out right now. The bank manager assured me the deposit would be put into our new account..now they seem to not know where it is, they are supposed to call me back. Now im wondering if I should have closed it..we are so in deep if there is a hassle and we don't get that money.

Not trying to tell you what to do but I think with the bank managers attitude towards not wanting to be involved in helping you yesterday, perhaps you should change banks. Even open a saving account at another bank, at least your money would be where it should be instead of being lost in the bank somewhere....

Hi..just wanna add my little' tidbit'. Did you know there are Debit cards, out there, that you can make a 'direct deposit'on? Just like a bank, but, in a card? I've seen a few good ones, on the net. A friend of mine, uses 'Account Now' Debit card. You can make direct deposits, on it AND NO % rate..since it's a debit card. You might want to look into it.

Good idea SDChargers, that is something to think about, I believe I've seen them advertised here and there also. You can use them just like a pre-paid mastercard/visa and at ATM's too.
