Is this normal????

I received this e-mail from my bank today.... (remember I had to use the same bank)

Just wanted to give you an update on your account.
I have returned 3 of the unauthorized items this morning...they will not be coming out of your account. However, there is a direct deposit of $190 coming into the old account from one of the places. Do you want me to try to return that or leave it alone for now. Just let me know.

I have not answered her. I overpaid all of my loans and of course told them I wanted a refund in my maild, e-mailed and faxed letters. I feel stupid even posting this. But this really scares me. I asked her to find out who it is comming from. What do I do? As of yet, I have not had any contact with them other than my letters ect. to them.

I told her not to take it. I was afraid it would be trick. It is just that this is the beginning for me and I am soooo not sure what to expect. Every little thing is making me nervous. I did not specify about the refund (inexperience, guess I should have, did not even think I would get one) however, I told them no contact except for usps mail or e-mail... I would much rather have a PIF than the money. Atleast then I would know I am done with that company. I still want to know which company it is (I had 7) so I can add it to my documentation collection.

So one of them you think tried to send you a refund, without telling you? That does seem suspicous. I can see how that would work, by reopening your account. Or could they some how get your new account information via the way it was sent into your new one?

If you find out who sent it then yes, ask for a paper check. I had a refund from USA Credit, not a PDL but a scam nonetheless, and I told them my account was closed and they had to send it to my bank anyway, and then wrote up the check after they had gotten it back. So they might send you the check anyway once it was returned.....

Well..If I have learned nothing through all this, I have learned 1)not to trust the pld's, 2) not to expect a refund or even a pif...and most importantly 3)never ever, ever, ever (to infinity) give out my account information. I would rather go without the 190.00 that risk the pdl's having access to my account and all the trouble that would cause. And yes it all seem suspicious and waaaaaayyy to easy. At least now I know I am not being paranoid about this.

I think we all are a lot more paranoid this time around, which is probably a good thing. I'm sure I can still check my closed account online and find a dozen things still attempting to go through, despite letters and emails and such. Including 'paper checks' they've printed up and sent in for random monetary amounts....

NO! NO! NO! STOP! suzi, this is most likely a REFUND from one of your pdl's! It is not suspicious. It is not fishy. This is how I got my refunds! The account wasn't totally closed yet. It had a hard debit block on it. Any of the pdl's that refunded me just credited a deposit into my account!!! Call the bank! Do it now! Ask them who the deposit is from! That's what I did. Once they told me who the deposit was from, I got it. Had to go into the bank to get that cash out, but I'll be damned if I didn't take it. They owed me that money. Honey, call the bank NOW and ask who the deposit is from. If it is from one of the pdl's you overpaid, it's a refund!!!! Do it now!

You guys, 4 pdl's gave me refunds. The way they did it was AFTER receiving my complaints to the BBB, the FTC, and the AG, they just "secretly" refunded me by depositing the refund amount into my account. They then reported back to the agencies that this was "taken care of" and they had refunded me. They do this to look like little angels. So when they respond to the complaints, they've already taken care of the problem. It is not uncommon. Actually, they probably HOPE that you block it or the account is totally closed because then the deposit will be returned to them and you'll never see that money again. If you have the opportunity the get that refund, take it.

But I have not filed with anyone yet. I have just started and they would have just recived my e-mail and fax yesterday and as far as I know have not gotten my certified letter, should have been yesterday or today. You do not have to convince me. If they can do it without the company getting my new banking info, I will...I am just trying to understand. I am leery about things that come easily. (Not that this has been easy) Also, the two that were scheduled to come out yesterday were Up Front Cash and Instant Loans Now...they have the same address and same suite..can I at least expect not to be harrassed by ILN?

Well I'm glad there is someone here who knows what going on, while the rest of us who haven't gone through it remain shifty eyed at even the good events.

In fact I was even doubtful of my paranoid response. I thought that since it came into a blocked (or closed account), you could just go into the bank and take it out yourself and ta-da it'd be yours. But then the paranoia set in....

LOL! I'm so sorry! I just want you to get that refund! They are sneaky. They'll slip the refund in without saying a word to you. It's actually kind of funny. Hell, I had to go smoke a cigarette after that one! :D

Call your bank. Ask "who is this direct deposit from?" They will tell you. Tell them to accept it. Also tell them that you are expecting refunds from others (with luck) and to inform you of any other incoming deposits and who they are from.

I have to disagree - This is not normal. I have never heard of a pdl just sending a refund, especially from an account they are trying to debit. Most pdl's that send refunds want you to sign something, or at least tell you before it happens. You froze this account. They know it. Why would they try to refund money to a frozen account? I think it's a trick.

I think this is most likely a pdl trying to "reloan" you money. You accept the deposit and then they start hounding you for payments.

Okay. I'm going to jump in here again. Four of my pdl's refunded me without a word to me. My account (at the time) just had a hard debit block on it. No debits at all were to hit. However, credits were accepted. I checked my account every single day. A "direct deposit" showed up one day. I freaked, called the bank, asked who it was from. They told me. It was one of the pdl's that I demanded a refund from. I went to the bank and took that money out. Another "direct deposit" showed up sometime later. I freaked, called the bank, asked who it was from. It was from another pdl I demanded a refund from. I went to the bank and took that money out. And so on and so on. No, the pdl's NEVER said a word to me. They never notified me, never emailed me, nothing. I had already filed my complaints though. By the time these pdl's were contacted by the BBB and the AG, they were already armed and ready. They responded stating that they indeed refunded my overpayment, the loan was marked paid in full, and the account was considered closed. I swear to you. Would I lie to you guys? No. They do this because they know you're going to file complaints. This way they have already "taken care of it", so when contacted they can tell the agencies "Gee, we already responded and sent cannr a refund for the overpayment." Looks like they're angels. No one ever tried to debit the account. It wasn't a trap. It was just their sneaky way of getting this matter taken care of before the complaints rolled in. Four of them did it this way. I swear. If it didn't happen to me personally, I would probably think something was weird about it all. But it happened to me. So, it can happen. It did happen. I'm telling you guys! Not all pdl's will do this, of course. But when they do, take the deposit (if you're sure of the pdl and that they do owe you a refund). The whole fact here is that mine & suzi's accounts were not totally closed. So the deposits went in. The majority of people's accounts are totally closed, so the refund would be rejected and sent back to the pdl. We just so happened to have a hard debit block only on the account, so the deposits were able to go in. I'm not making this up. Please believe me!

Cannr - Thank you....For this and for the PM.

Every post on this thread has reflected my own thoughts, fears, happiness, paranoia. It is why I posted when it happened. I want everyone to know I really appreciate the advice and support and everything everyone has done for me throughout the past month. I respect what you all do here and how much of yourselves you give to whomever comes here in need. (Sorry, sometimes the counselor in me slips out)

suzi, you did the right thing by coming here and posting first. Always do that. I never replied to anyone or made any steps until I came here first, posted, got advice, then I went back and made my decision or responded to an idiot pdl. That's why we're here. Please do not ever hesitate to post ANYTHING. Nothing is "stupid". Someone will have experience with it, heard of it, dealt with it, whatever. Whenever anything comes about, just get on here and HERE WE ARE! :D
