Laura, at least your bank is working with you. Good job on acting quickly regarding those debits! However, as goudah stated, they will eventually catch on that their ACH debits won't go through, so they'll send through an electronic check. They stop at nothing except a blocked/closed account. If they can not close it NOW due to the overdraft, tell them to block EVERYTHING. Sorry, but you can't use your ATM card or write checks. It'll block everything. This is the only way to get around these pdl's from debiting your account. I'm sorry. Keep your money, don't put it back in that account. Get a new account at a new bank, if possible.

Laura, be aware that if you only stop payment on these PDLS they will try to debit using different names , and different amounts. You cant stop them from debting your account. You will have to do a hard debit. You will not have access to this account. It will stop ALL transactions.

Good advice...the lady at the bank did say that if I opened a new account that my annuity and my paycheck could be deposited in the new account without any problem just let accounting be aware of the change.
That was my biggest worry about getting a new account.
So I will probably take care of that this week. And as fara as contacting my place if employment... I work for a school system which has many schools so if they get to my supervisor she will probably tell them that she doesn't know which school I'm at..also our payroll dept. has handle collection agencies in the past...and I know they will not be intimadated by anyone. They will not touch my paycheck unless ordered by court in Indiana. So I do believe these pdls just might have to go along we me..if they want anything.

I was just reading on another forum about payday loans. These financial experts (I think) are from payday advance companies. They were telling people to just talk with the pdls and make arrangements to pay a percentage of the amount owed..consistantly every payday and then you will have them paid. I thought to myself there is no way you would ever be done with the loan on those terms. They never even mentioned checking the laws in your state to see if the pdl was legal! This site has diffenently given the best advice.
My loans...
Funny thing...I just received an e-mail from UpFront Payday loan..(I owe them 250) it congratulated me on paying off my current loan and offered me a new one with a bonus of 50 dollars...go figure??? I have not received a letter to that effect..probably a collection agency has this account now? What do you think???

Have you checked your bank account? Sometimes they will try to debit, think it went through and they got their money, send you the letter saying you can reloan, then realize the payment was rejected. It usually takes a day or two for the payment to be rejected, so maybe they think you did pay off the loan.

yes...I check it every morning..my bank does all their ACH's in the morning. It may come through tomorrow...then probably Friday because that is when they nomally come in on my payday. But I don't believe that will happen I think they have sold it to a collection agency. I am sure I will hear from them.

Just watch out for them laura. Either they marked your account pif (if you sent them "the letter" stating you wanted a pif) and they didn't inform you (wouldn't be surprised). Or, like Goudah said, it takes some of these pdl's to realize that the debit was rejected. Up to a week sometimes, in my case.
Also, I'm glad you posted regarding visiting another site regarding pay day loans. I just want to reassure you that here, we do check the laws, check the pdl's, check the licenses, etc. We do our research first so that it is accurate information. And, you are correct, what they were saying regarding just "getting in touch with the pdl and paying each payday", they will be paying forever. I'm just grateful that you found this site so you are getting well researched, well informed, sound advice. Please keep posting with any questions. :D

Yes I will keep watching out for them...I did send the letter stating between a loan I got from them earlier this year for $200 dollars ( that was paid off) and the 250 I still owe??? They have received $855.00 from me! But I am sure they want more. The other site did mention that these pdls will sell these loans to other sites and they will try to get it from you...does that sound right?
reply
laura, they may "sell" (if that's what you want to call it) your loan to a nice illegal "collection company" of some sort. So they'll have all your information, too! Like goudah said, some might, some won't. There is NO predicting what any pdl will do. We get surprised every single day!
need address...
After two weeks the post office has returned my letter to CashAdvance.net. It stated this mail was undeliverable and there was not a forwarding address...GR Enterprises is listed on the website and I also noticed their address had not been updated since 2005. Does anyone have an address for them or how can I find this address???
reply
I have googled, searched their website, Good Lord. Are they trying to hide? I'll google on this site also. But the only information (which you probably already have) is this:
Telephone: 1-877-995-1400
Fax: 1-866-935-5500
You can fax any documentation to them. See if that works, if nothing else. Also, wanted to post this that was on their site. Just in case anyone is in any of these states:
Do you issue loans in all 50 states?

bank account
I JUST read about someone having the EXACT problem you are ( with the PDL's). I suggested to, maybe, get a Debit card, that can accept direct deposits. For exaple, my friend doesn't have a bank account. She has a card called 'Account Now'. She has ALL of her checks directed deposited, on it. It's a debit card, so, there is no % rate. However....I've seen other cards, like these, on the Web. This may be an idea for you.

I was amazed because Friday (Aug 31st) was my payday..I expected the PDLs to hit my account..not one did...which doesn't mean they won't try again. The one time they tried (which was The Loan Shop aka Westbury Ventures) I called my bank and they took off the debit as I requested. As long as the stop payments are working this way..I really don't want to do anything rash..like close my account. I did find a debt relief agency and they are willing to work with me and my creditors, pdls and other loans. T&C wanted $210 to start and 30 dollars a week to pay my creditors over 2 years..my total debt is only 2550..which meant they would be getting over a thousand dollars for helping me! I couldn't see that...so now I pay 127.50 per month (with the option of paying more each month towards my debt if I wanted to) and hopefully this will work. I feel some relief of not having to do everything by myself.
That's great Laura...I took a similar route myself and am amazed

I do feel confident to do this myself as far as PDL's. There is some ground to stand on as far as legal matters. However I had some credit cards and they can be tricky and less willing to work directly with me. I guess working with a debt relief company makes them feel more like they will get their money.
Anyway I feel better just knowing I can give a number to a creitor when they call and my counselor will deal with them.

laura, good for you! :D I'm so glad your pdl's didn't hit! I bet you were REALLY happy about that! And, I'm really glad you have someone helping you out. Yes, it is nice to be able to say "Contact such and such at this telephone number" instead of dealing with the telephone calls yourself! As long as you're feeling better and have some relief, that's what counts the most!

There is one message (on another topic I have been reading) I am concerned about. The others suggested you talk to these PDLs when they call or they may call you friends and family. I was advised to not talk to them on the phone and request only correspondence by mail or e-mail...now which is right????

Laura -this is a topic which has been discussed in several posts..The advice given to me was to do whatever I was comfortable with however, not giving them a way to contact you (by phone or e-mail) will ensure they call your references, boss, etc. In my letter to them I ordered them to only contact me via e-mail or usps mail.(Not that they follow it) I do not talk to them..I not the date and time they called, transcribe the voice mails and respond via e-mail. I prefer they contact me via e-mail so I have everything in writing..it is difficult to use spoken word as documentation. Written word is black and white and is difficult to refute. So far they have not contacted my references etc.

OK...yes I have contacted all the IPDL's by registered mail and sent the C&D letters. Only one was returned and I found their fax number and faxed it to them. I, too, asked to be contacted by e-mail or US mail however I receive phone calls on my cell but not one of them have left a message. No one I know has said anything about being contacted...but working for a school corp. it is hard to get in touch with me...I work afternoons and most them work day shifts. I am not really worried about my relatives they all have caller ID and usually do not talk to people they don't know...but I am sure there will be more contact on their part..
laura it has been my experience that they only call you contacts
laura it has been my experience that they only call you contacts if they have no way of contacting you..in my C&D I also revoked their right to contact my reference numbers and included by email address for them to use...out of the 10 ipdls I had they only called my son once...and none of them have done anything else..

I am sure they will. I know some have changed their cell phone numbers. I didn't but they have not hit my cellphone too hard yet. I do not answer any numbers I do not know either. If you recognize the number as a pdl..e-mail them and let them know you know they called. From what I have read eventually they will get the message not to call..atleast for a little while and then they will pop up out of the blue and the dance starts again...Whatever you do, keep copies of all correspondence and write down what they say if they call, date, time etc..and if need be quote it back to them in an e-mail. I have read they really hate this.

I have received an e-mail from Cash Link...they keep saying they have tried to reach me...by my cell (yes) which I don't answer numbers I do not know...they also do not leave voice mail. So who's fault is that?
In his e-mail (today) Matt stated he had repeatedly tried to reach me by e-mail with no response. I have responded to all their e-mail (Linda) emailed me on August 20th and I kept it file. That was the last one I have received until today. I have sent them everything I can...and let them know what is going on. That is all I can do..they'll just have to wait
or keep harassing me til I file with the attorney general.

Laura, you are doing good and are on the right track. It is good you keep your correspondence and be sure to include it when you file with the AG. And you can only do what you can do....you have explained your situation and have done the best you can to keep them informed..if they want to be stupid that is on them...

Yes...I agree...I have also made up my mind that bill collectors are not going to ruin my life. In fact I had two jobs and no time to spend with my grandkids..I have a grandson that is senior this year and is hoping to play football in college..he has already had a number of scholarship offers...I want to see him play and be there so I quit the second job (which really only took up my time on weekends) and I am going to spend time with them. Life's too short spend it stressing over bills!!!
Wow..that is awsome. It feel good to take back your life. And
Wow..that is awsome. It feel good to take back your life. And you're right..life is too short..Unfortunately, I think we loose sight of that sometimes. I think it is wonderfuld you get to see your grandson play ball...both of you will remember that always. I wish him the best of luck this season. A friend of mine went through the whole scout and scholarship thing and it was quite an awsome ride. Enjoy the season!!

laura, I'll tell you this. Out of my 12 (yes 12) internet pdl's, not one of them attempted to call my references. I did inform my references they may get calls & if they did to not take them. However, not one has ever called them. They've called my place of employment and they've hit my cell phone pretty darn hard. But I personally do not take their calls. I stated in my correspondence to them to only contact me via email or USPS. If they can't do that, tough. I will not speak to them. You need to document everything, so email is the best route. For the one pdl that insisted he's been trying to contact you via email, email him back and forward every email you have regarding them. Oh, they just love this! This is why it's best to not take the calls. No documentation. If they call, email them and tell them once again to only contact you via email. When you have all these emails & they play the "you didn't contact us" game, you can fire back every single email (proof) showing that you have contacted them. It's also good to have to show the threats and/or lies they've sent. On a telephone call, it's hard to prove what they've said. Get everything in writing. And, I swear, not one of my pdl's contacted my references. Maybe because I email the heck out of them!

Thanks Roxy and Cannr...I did sent (Matt) from Cash Link all the e-mails. I am sure I will hear from him again. Is this the same group that had been sued in 2003 by the securities and exchange commission???
There is a story on the internet about Cash Link and president Alan Levine...maybe he went into another kind of cash business after that lawsuit??? He tried to swindle people them...maybe he has figured out another way to swindle people..who knows? Anyway I keep all my e-mails and documents in a file...

Hi again I need some help with Westbury Ventures...I got a called to the office at my work place today and was told a Tom Rothrock (or something like that) has been trying to get in touch with me. I told them to tell anyone that calls I do not accept calls at work to call my cell. They agreed to do that...that being said this person has called my cell the last two weeks and never leaves a voicemail or anything. He doesn't send me e-mails or this collection agency has not contacted me since Aug. 22nd. I saw previously where others have been send e-mails and responded. Does anyone know if Westbury Ventures has an e-mail address? Or should I just send another letter...
reply
laura, from what I've read, Westbury is awful. They threaten, lie, and scare the crap out of people. So don't take the calls. Let them hit your cell 40 times and not leave a message. However they like to spend their days - whatever. However, I'm going to do a search and see if there is an email listed for them. Can't promise anything though!

laura, looks like we've gotten ourselves into a wonderfully illegal company here. They have numerous d/b/a's. Good Lord. If you have a fax number, fax them. This one is going to be ugly. Don't take their phone calls. Just communicate via fax or USPS. If you want, I can pm ladybug to see if she has an email address. Where the emails went to that she sent is beyond me. It could have been to any of the d/b/a's of Westbury. Lordy, Lordy.

Well I heard from another IPDL ..CashLinkUSA.."Matt" informed me I owe them $160 which needs to be paid immediately or they will be forced to turn it over to a 3rd Pary Collection Agency...do you think that is the name of the CA or are we digging deep to find this one? Anyway I informed him I had paid back $90.00 of the $100 I borrowed and I really don't believe they are licensed in Indiana...therefore the most I owed them was about $25. and I would tell the same thing to the CA they are forced to deal with...

Oh crap. Centrinex. Crap. Okay, it's still okay. Centrinex isn't a "collection agency". It's a "call center" where they deal with customers on behalf of the pdl's. Lord. I've been battling with Shaniquia for quite a while at Centrinex on a pdl. Here is what you need to do - Email a response back. Tell them you only borrowed $100. You have paid back $90.00. You only owe them $10.00. Tell them that is what you are going to pay and demand that it be marked pif and that sent to you in writing (even via email). Also state that they are not licensed to even lend legally and no further negotiations will be addressed until they can provide you with the name and license number they are operating legally under. I haven't heard a word from Shaniquia since I asked that question.
