Credit agency has asked for attorney case number?

Hi -

I have a collection agency after me for a check that was fraudulently written. Right now I am in the process of collecting everyhting, getting hard copies, etc in the event I need an attorney for identity theft. I wrote the agency a letter explaining all of this and I asked them to please stop calling me and only send correspondence by mail in the event I need copies for an attorney. They still have not sent me anything by mail and have called me twice since I sent this letter. In their phone messages they are asking me for my attorney case number. They said if I did not send it to them they would pursue legal action. Is this legal for them to do, especially considering they have already violated several parts of the Fair Debt Collection Act? Why would they need my attorney's case number?

Mjewell, you can write them a letter explaining that they are violating the law after being restricted from calling and you will be filing a case against them.

You can also mention in your letter that all the future correspondence will be done with your attorney. I hope that the attorney will be able to deal this matter.
