Unknown caller

At least once or twice a week I get a phone call, shows up "unknown" on my caller id...never leave a message and of course I can't return the call..does this mean who ever is calling is blocking thier number? Should I just suppose it is one of my ipdl friends?? This has been happening for about a month now...I'm just curious...

I think you can safely assume it is a pdl. Whenever they were calling me, it would say "unknown" or "call". That's it. No name, no number. And, of course, they don't leave a message. The only one that actually showed up as a telephone number was the one from the UK! LOL!

cat, when did you take out the loan? Was the loan originally for $500? How did you contact the pdl? Did you call them? Or did you contact them via email/mail? And how much have you paid on the loan so far to date?

Okay, so you have three separate loans with one of the pdl's? Did you pay the first two off? And now on the third one they're saying you owe $700? And, they are the same company, by the way. Please post as to my questions regarding the one where you had three loans.

cat, it is important that you answer these questions, as you reside in the state of Kentucky.

Okay, cat. I still don't totally understand how much you initially borrowed and paid back to each one of them. Don't include the fees. They don't "count". The reason I'm saying it's important for you to get this straight is because you reside in Kentucky where internet lending is illegal. And I do not believe either of these two pdl's are licensed in their own state. The key word here is illegal. Are these the only two pld's that you have?

cat, have you done anything with your bank account? Or are they still able to debit your account? As I stated, internet lending is illegal in your state. Also, I do not believe these pdl's are licensed/legal. If you haven't already, you need to prevent them from debiting your account any further. You have paid them way too much. Way.

cat, they can't sue you or take you to jail or anything like that. They are illegal. They will probably try to call you 1,000 times a day and send you emails 1,000 times a day. Your bank account is closed. They can't get any more money. You need to send letters via email/fax/mail to these pdl's and tell them you revoke their debit authorization, you revoke any wage assignment you may have signed with them, you need to tell them to only contact you via email or USPS only - no telephone calls. They will still probably try to call you. Don't take the calls. You also need to let them know how much you've overpaid and demand a refund. You will probably not get a refund, but sometimes we do. You never know. And you need to file complaints with the BBB, the FTC, and your state AG on each of these pdl's. You'll be okay. They are lending illegally.

I have read where both of these were somewhat easier to work with than some of the other ipdls. I guess I don't understand...did you borrow more each time or is the addition in loans where they rolled them over?? Did you apply for a new loan each time...because usually they don't let you take another loan until the previous is paid off...if it's just fee's they have added on each time..Cannr is right ..you have paid way more on both than allowed.

No, the loans where never paid off, they rolled them over. Pay day okay approved a smaller payment and they said no more fees would be applied to this one loan 6 payments of $50.00 total $300.00. Pay day select didn't want to work with me. Both loans where done thru the interent r you sure they are not legal
I do not want to get in trouble i am raising 3 grandkids . Does anyone have a letter that i can copy to send to them stating that i have overpaid them. I really do thank all of you your help.and who is ftc, and ag?

Cat ~ you are not going to get in trouble. These places are operating ILLEGALLY in Kentucky. They should not have loaned you the money in the first place. It is the same here in NC. Since these places are operating illegally, everything you have paid them would apply toward the principal, and it doesn't matter what they tell you, they are in the wrong for lending in your state. They will tell you that they did not lend in your state, but they contacted you in the state of KY, they gave you the loan in KY, and they are taking money from your account in KY, so that means they are doing business in the state of KY.

Just write a letter to each company telling them:

You are revoking your authorization to debit your account, any wage assignment that you might have signed, to contact your employer or place of employment and your references.

Let them know that payday loans are illegal in the state of Kentucky and that they are operating illegally in your state and put the law regarding this in your letter.

You can state in there how much you have borrowed and how much you have paid back to date (this mean all fees that you have paid them and do not list them as roll over fees.) Say something like I borrowed $200 from your company and to date, I have paid back "x" amount. If you have over paid the principal, it does not hurt to request a refund for the overage.

Let them know that you are filing a complaint against them with your Attorney General (AG) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). (then file the complaints!)

I would also tell them that you will only communicate with them via email or through the USPS. This way you have a record of what has transpired between the two of you.

Do a letter for each company and send it to them either via email or through the USPS, certified with return receipt. Take a copy of this to your bank showing that you have revoked your authorization to debit your account. Also send a copy of your letters to the AG and FTC and do keep copies for yourself.

Stand strong, know there is nothing they can do to you, and be persistant and do not let them scare you because they will try, but remember, these are only scare tatics. Oh and if you are working, do take a copy of these letters to your HR/Payroll dept. That way if they try to get money from your paycheck, they can't. Hang in there!!!!

You need to file your complaints, especially since you're in Kentucky where internet pdl's are illegal. You need to file with the BBB, which is done on-line and very easy. Go to www.bbb.org and you can file a complaint on each pdl. You also need to file with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) which is www.ftc.gov. This one is also done on line and is very easy. In Kentucky, to file with the state AG, you need to go to the state AG site (I just googled kentucky state attorney general and the site popped up). Go under "consumer protection" at the top, click on that. It'll take you to a complaint form. Unfortunately, in Kentucky, you can't file it on line. You have to download the complaint form, print it out, fill it out, and mail 2 copies in to the AG office. But, it is well worth it. You will get responses to your complaints. PLEASE file your complaints! It's really important to do.

cat, if you have overpaid these loans a penny over the amount borrowed (principle only), you do not owe them anything and you should actually demand a refund from them. Do not pay anything over what they actually deposited into your bank account. The "fees" they are charging you are illegal. You are not obligated to pay them. If you are going to pay these pdl's, do not pay anything over the amount they deposited into your bank account. If you have already paid this PLUS some, then do not pay them any more money! They are illegal.

CAT! :D I'm jumping up and down here! They know they are wrong! Yes, print that email! Save it, print it, hang it up, put it in your car! Frame it! I'm so happy for you! However, I still think they owe you money, but okay, good for me! You are going in the right direction! I'm so glad you're taking advice and learning from it! Look what it got you so far and so quickly! Thank goodness! I hope you're doing a "happy dance", because I sure am!

cat, gosh, I wish I could promise you a refund! Lord knows you certainly deserve one! However, these pdl's are nasty, nasty people. Since you did file your complaints, maybe with luck, your state AG can come through on this one. Be patient and see what happens. It breaks my heart that you paid that much money. You keep us posted on how it's going! :D
