I am so sorry to hear about your health problems. Is this company still giving phone cards too? If you will tell us what state you are in, we can direct you to see if they are legal in your state. Many people have already filed complaints with their state attorney general on them . When you get the nsf fees taken care of, close your account. I am not understanding why the bank won't work with you on this. It sounds like you have paid over and beyond on this. Give us more info, and we will direct you to some solutions(no personal info) Best of luck..KAren :D

Check upfrontmoney with the law enforcement agencies in your area. You need to know if they are a legit company and the charges added are according to the laws mentioned in your state. You also need to have a proof of their debit being unauthorized. This will help you in putting a dispute with the bank and get your charges reverted.

Do not despair you have come to the right place. People here are very wise and will guide you along. Please take what ever advice they give.
Regarding you bank account, you will need to close it, so the fees will stop. However you will not be able to close it until you bring your balance current. If you open another account and your bank reports you to chex system, your new bank will very likely close your account. You stay on chex for 5 years, and that will prevent you from being able to open a checking account.Maybe you can work out a payment plan with your bank so they wont report you.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress

What Kashzan said about Chexsystems is correct, except that it is possible to still open a bank account after being reported. There are still banks out there that don't use Chexsystems to verify new accounts.

It has some information about possible blocks and holds your bank could put on your account to stop any future debits. You need to stress to them that the $795 debit was not authorized. File a dispute. Keep at your bank.

Which bank is this, I'm curious. I wonder why they wouldn't work with you to help reverse some of these ridiculous fees?
Goudah Thanks for clarifying to Redcorn about the chex system.

Thanks for clarifying to Redcorn about the chex system. I forgot that there are still some banks that will open an account even if you are reported, I still have so much to learn

You need to dispute these charges! And, in the meantime, since you can not close the account with a negative balance (and you're not able to use the account anyway since there's no money in it), have your bank put a hard hold on it so that no more debits can come out. Just in case this company or another tries to debit you AGAIN. Then there would be another debit charge with more fees added to it. Since you can't close it yet, please be sure to get it "blocked/hold/freeze" whatever they want to call it so no one (even the same company) can hit it with another debit and put you in the negative any further. The above posts are soooo true. You need to stress that this was an unauthorized debit and fight that to get it reversed. After they do that, they can reverse the bank fees (generally, only the branch manager can reverse the bank fees). Try to get that hold put on your account so you won't have the fear of any other debits hitting it. And try to stay on the "good" side of the branch manager, if you can. He/she has the last call in reversing the bank fees. Please keep us posted!

My bank didn't help me either...at the beginning...I am in overdraft but the loss pprevention department didn't contact me till a month after they closed the account for overdrafts..so you may have some time. I did write a letter to the bank and the main branch explaining what had happened...if your upfront with them it may help...they made payment arrangements with me and did not report me to chexsystems...and I can have the branch manager reviewmy account in 2 months to see if charges can be removed. I have found with the banks...if you go to them and explain at the beginning it may help delay them turning you over.
