NY AG Need help

I'm shaking I'm so angry. I just argued with the NY AG representative about PDL's. He saying I went into a legal binding contract and owe the money and there is absolutely nothing the AG's office can do for me. He suggested again that I seek debt counseling. I swear he treated me worse than the collections people did.
I asked him for the phone number of another agent in the office. He gave it to me after going on and on about they can't discuss other people with me and based on my complaint no one can help me. He basically said the stuff I was getting off the internet was not true. I called and left a message with the other agent - I don't know if he will call me or if the guy I was talking to will go head him off. I tried to keep my head and I just kept saying I'm not going to aruge with you but these loans are illegal in NY and if you won't help me I will find someone that will. He said so you are basing this on stuff you found on the internet? What the hell is going on? I've already sent to emails online to the AG and heard nothing. Where do you go to complain about the AG?

This is unbelievable. Based on your experiences, I am not expecting much help either.

Who is this person you are speaking with? If the loans are illegal, then they are illegal, period. There is not middle ground. And there is no legal binding contract, since they are not legal to begin with and to boot, they are not licensed either!

I'm very sorry and disappointed in this.

mperez, have you tried your state's Department of Financial Institutions at all?

Me too . . . . It looks like you will have to fight these companies without the help of your state ag's office.

That's the most ridiculous reponse I've ever heard. It even says on the NY Banking Dept website that these loans are illegal! Um, we are not making it up! Do they not know their own laws?

That's what I tried to tell him. Yes I have gone to thru NY banking and I also filed with the NY consumer agency someone provided. I'm hoping the other AG rep calls me back in the meanwhile I'm going to leave early today so I can make calls from home in private and see who and what I can find out.

mperez
i also live in NY and was also under the impression that these loans are not legal in NY. Each place i checked repeated the fact that they are illegal.I can not figure out whay you are getting such a hard time. I believe that NY was the one state that was fighting this the hardest.Apparently who ever you were talking to at the ag was either new or very uninformed

mperez, please keep us posted as to what's going on. I'm so sorry they are not cooperating with you as they should.

I would not take that crap. I would fire off a letter directly to Andrew M. Cuomo and explain in detail what happened and how you, a voter and taxpayer, were treated by this dolt! Tell him if they can't enforce their own laws come election time you will campaign for someone who will. I guarantee you will get satifaction. You might even copy the Governors office.

I'm with frogpatch. Write to other people. Be heard. Don't let them "push you under the rug." Again, I'm so sorry about this treatment you've received. But you've fought so hard for this long. Keep trying other avenues. Write to everyone you can think of. Saying these loans are illegal and then saying they can't do anything about them is unacceptable. Someone has to be able to help you.

Thanks, jen. I think we can safely assume this rep. she spoke with is a "dolt" as frogpatch called him. I would keep trying other people. Someone has GOT to be able to give mperez a correct answer. No, it's not legally binding if they are illegal in New York. Hello. Maybe this rep. hasn't been on the job very long. Or maybe he was just "confused". But I can't see how. Pdl's are totally illegal in New York, aren't they? Even store fronts?
