call at work

this man called me today at work and said he was a attorney for genova roth and that i had to come up with 315.00 today or he was coming to my job i told him i don't have any money at the time but i didn't want to get to involved with talking to him at work and told him i could send something 8-03 and he said ok and the rest of it divide by 2 the next pay peroid i know i owe them but i owe 200.00 plus 60.00 he said it was refinance since my bank account was closed do you think he is real lawyer.

morningstarr, I agree with you. Sometimes it might not be a legit collection agency. I've read so many posts about illegal collection agencies. That's why everyone always advises to get the debt validated. Makes sense.

diana, if you're "up for the phone call" and you have his number, call him. Tell him to send you a debt validation. Also, ask him to clarify what company he is with. Keep us posted if you do get ahold of him!

Do not be afraid of this person. More than likely he is not a real attorney. If so, he would know that you cannot threaten anyone like that. It is against the law. Like Cannr said, if you call, get all the information from him in regards to his company, name of company, address, phone number and if he is an attorney, get his bar number...(I think that is what it is called) and you can verify that he is an attorney. Most people, as soon as they hear the words "I am an attorney", they get scared. Hang in there.

2ndband is totally right! If you do speak to this "person", ask every question under the sun and write it all down. I'll bet he hangs up on you.

These payday loan companies go under so many different names it really is hard to keep them all straight. What companies do you have loans out with? I don't know if you have already listed them yet or not, but maybe if you list them, someone might recognize which one that may belong to them.
