My response from the NY AG
Here goes:
"On behalf of Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, I am writing to notify you that we have received and reviewed your complaint.
It is the policy of the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection to intervene in an individual consumer dispute if we believe our mediation might help bring about a resolution. I am forwarding a copy of your complaint to the company to request a statement of their position and a possible adjustment.
If you wish to contact us, please do so in writing. Be sure to mention our file number and the full name of the company. Please understand that we cannot serve as a consumer's private attorney.
I hope our efforts are succesful. I will contact you again when there are developments to report."
So, that's it. It's not too discouraging, but I'm not holding my breath either.
It's quite different from Mperez's response, that's what has me so puzzled.
Any input?
Sounds similar to what I heard from my Indiana AG...they are not
Sounds similar to what I heard from my Indiana AG...they are not taking them to court but mediating for you to get closure/settlement. At first I was very discouraged but now I feel more hopeful...even if they just pif me after hearing from my AG...they know I meant business when I said I would file.
I don't understand why there aren't stiffer penalties for these
I don't understand why there aren't stiffer penalties for these loan sharks! This isn't right.
It sure is quite different than what I got - I am going to call
It sure is quite different than what I got - I am going to call again Monday and ask to talk the representative that responded to you. If they don't help me I'm going to email the AG and quote the differences in responses. I also to ghouda's advice and filed a complaint with consumer state ny and am incouraged that Spitzer's name is on the home page - maybe they will help.
Mperez, remember even if you get nowhere with the AG, these PDLs
Mperez, remember even if you get nowhere with the AG, these PDLs still have no legal leg to stand on.

That's the attitude I am taking also..I am assuming it might mean something to them to know the AG's are writing them...after all if our claims had no merit at all....would the AG's even offer to mediate for us?? Therefore there must me something to our claims that makes them at least take that stand.
I don't get why they would tell you guys two different things!!
I don't get why they would tell you guys two different things!! However, they are saying they will mediate so I take that to be a good thing. I know that we all want the attorney generals to take immediate action and go after these places but I guess it is going to take a lot of complaints for them to really do something. The best thing we can do is encourage everyone that comes here that is dealing with these illegal companies to file complaints. The more complaints, the more of a voice we create. Does that make sense? It doesn't sound right but you guys know what I mean.
response
As long as each person continues to post their responses they're getting, it's good. This way, from jen's response, now mperez has another contact name. And mperez posting any responses, may give another contact name that could help someone else. The more posts with responses, the more contact names, phone numbers, etc., we can get. With this information, one would think that SOMEONE out of all these people can do something or at least clarify an answer. So, keep posting replies. Keep posting contact names and phone numbers. Someone has to be able to help. mperez, I only wish you luck when you call the new contact. I'm behind you, my friend!
