how to manage both cc and student loan debt?

Hello, all, I really need some help. When I was in college, I got a whole bunch of credit card and student loan debt. I thought I'd be able to find a job and be able to pay it off, and I haven't been able to do that. Actually, I did have a job and was starting to pay off my debts but my ex-husband was extremely abusive to me, and I had to leave my job, and thus I couldn't continue making payments.

I have no idea where to start, I could get a copy of my credit report, but I'm visually impaired, and I'm too embarrassed to have my family go over it with me. And I was recently in a house for where I lost everything (yes this is true my brother and family can vouch for it).

I've had an extremely difficult year, escaping an abusive relationship, getting a divorce from him, and now the house fire. I want to pay off my debts, but I don't have a lot of money coming in, so what do I do?

I really feel like the worse most irresponsible person on the face of the earth. My ex-husband would get mad at me for having all the debt, but then get mad when I spent any money trying to pay it off, but anyway, I'll stop now. I just don't even know what to do. I know how to manage money, it's just things just got over my head.

Hi quickgm

I feel very sorry for you and understand the pain that you are going through. It's understood that you are now living in vexed and troubled times. At this point, I can suggest you to bring out some extra talents if you have it in you. It will help you in earning some livelihood for yourself and your family. Also if you can find a moderate job for yourself, then it will help you to a great extent. See if your near and dear ones can offer any financial help at this time. If they agree to do so, then you can definitely pay them back after your normal days return back.

Keep in touch if we can offer you some more help

Regards
Roxette

Hi quickgm,

Cheer up! 8) :D

It's not the end of the world. I understand you are in a tight corner but with careful and strategic professional help, things can actually look a lot brighter.

Let's take the first step first. Firstly acquire your credit report from the credit bureau and review and analyse your present financial standing and how much money you owe as debt. Check out whether there are any additional charges added to your original debt amount.

I'm visually impaired

No worries. The authorities in the credit bureau will help you in such cases and there is nothing shameful to seek help in such cases. Anybody will be willing to help you, provided you seek help.

Your next step is to take the right professional approach and seek help from a reputed debt consolidation company. With debt consolidation your debt amount will be curtailed to a major 40%-60% which includes complete elimination of your late fees and taxes. This process allows you to clear your debts with easy monthly installments depending on the type and amount of debt you are undergoing.

Your other option is to go for debt settlement and clear your debts gradually. This is also very popular amongst people undergoing financial crisis.

Your next target is to try and get into a job, with a decent salary. This will not only give you financial freedom but also build your confidence which you have lost in the recent past.

Now, that you have got rid of your abusive husband, forget the past as a bygone nightmare and gear up for the future days. Life lays ahead of you and so start thinking in the positive path. This is just a crisis and with careful and calculative steps better days will be there for you very soon.:D

Feel free to approach us with further queries and hope you keep us updated on how you proceed with the situation. Maybe, we could be of further assistance in the future.

So keep smiling for great days ahead! :)

Cheers,
Jason

I admire your courage for persevering through such a difficult time. You are showing an incredible amount of responsibility for trying to take control of your credit and your life and I applaud you for that.

First, you need to get back on your feet. See if you can resume work back at your old place of employment. if that is not possible, try to find another job that could help you re-establish yourself.

Secondly, you should indeed get assistance with your credit report. There is no need to feel ashamed to ask for help. Credit reports are quite confusing and you are not the only one that has ever needed assistance with its translation. You should seek help from your family and a credit counselor. A credit counselor will be able to help you develop a course of action for your specific situation.

good luck and continue to keep us posted on what happens.
