How do I start to contact them? I want to pay principal. So far all they are taking is interest, way past the time this should be paid off.

Didn't you get a written contract from each off these storefronts? There should be a telephone number to call each place to tell them you want to pay down or pay these loans off and not pay the refinance charges.

However, it looks like in OH, they are not permitted rollover fees anyway. So I'm not sure if they consider it a new loan each time you renew or not. But we have a lot of forum members in OH who will chime in soon!

Hopefully someone from Ohio with store front experience will come along. However, from what I've read, store fronts are licensed and legal. They are far different from internet pdl's. Most store fronts, you have to go in and pay in full and re-write, which is considered a new loan. They don't have extensions. Also, most store fronts will not negotiate a payment plan until they turn your check in and it's returned for NSF. Then they'll work out a payment plan since you'll be in default. However, state laws vary. Is sassnlucy in Ohio? Hell, I forgot. But be very cautious when dealing with store fronts, as they are licensed and usually abide by state law. You might be able to speak to the manager of the store fronts and explain you can't PIF and hopefully make payment arrangements and they'll hold your check. But, like I said, the laws vary from state to state. Store fronts are usually legal. So tread carefully on this one.

Yeah I am curious now, because I am in Ohio ( store ont PDL) and I was advised to close or stop payment on the checks. Then JEN5276 says this

Store fronts operate differently though, they are licensed..Do not close your account!

I hope someone with more experience will chime in, but I believe your next step would be to try to work out some (affordable) arrangment with them.

So what should I do close it or what?

Trish,
There is awesome advice here! I foudn this place after getting a reality check from my husband the other day about his 5 open PDL totaling around 3,000.00. He pays out 800.00 a month in interest to these people.

Hang in there the good people on this forum will help you out. :D

Close your account, put a block on it, freeze it, whatever. Internet pdl's are not legal in your state. Stop payment to them now. Tell us how much you took the loans out for and how much you've paid back to them already. They will debit you until you're dead, so tend to your bank account now. Do not let them take any more debits out. Post on here how much you've paid them. We'll tell you if you've overpaid and how much. Then you can start working on them. However, first priority, go today and do something about your checking account. If you can not close it, but a HARD DEBIT BLOCK on it. No pdl debits will go through. Open a new account at an entirely different bank. Do NOT give out your new bank account information to anyway. But - take care of the bank first! These are illegal lenders and don't need anymore of your money. Please, take my advice and act upon the bank account immediately.

Ok, Ohio storefront pdl people. Let's all relax. I have at one time or another, had storefront pdl's with Cashland, Advance America, National Cash Advance, First American Cash Advance, US Cash, and Check N Go. The ONLY way you are going to get out of this cycle is:

1. go open a new account at a different bank NOW
2. Get your direct deposit switched to your new account
3. Close your old account, or, if it makes you feel better, leave like $1 in the old account that way these storefronts cannot try to prosecute for writing a check on a closed account (I don't think they would anyway......I read the court dockets daily and I have never seen that issue come up.)
4. Notify the storefronts that you have had unforseen expenses and cannot pay the loan on said due date and need to make arrangements. They are going to want their whole payment on your next payday. If you can't afford that, tell them. They are going to give you a really hard time and tell you they can only hold your checks for so long. Don't back down. Once they see you are serious and they can't get their full amount at one time, they will back down and take what payments you can agree to. Just make sure that you stick to the arrangements. If you don't, they can and will take you to civil court and get a judgement against you.

I am not an expert, I have just been there and done that with these places. I am here for all of you, I promise. Everything is going to be fine for you all. These storefronts will really try to scare you but you are entitled to a repayment plan.[/quote]
