When I close my bank account on Monday....

What do you guys think will happen next?

Since I'm in New York, and these IPLs are not even licensed to lend here, I can't get in any trouble right?

Just need some reassurance..

Make sure that you have read this topic before closing the account.

Payday loans are prohibited in New York. I guess the companies will call you after not getting the money from your account. You are liable to pay their principal amount only. If you have already paid, you don't need to worry about them. Insist them to send you a PIF letter.

Yes, I have paid the principal, plus TONS of their "fees" on all my accounts.

I read that topic that you highlighted several times, and from what I can gather from it, they can only prosecute if it's an actual paper check, right? (My case is different, because the IPLs I have are not even licensed in my state)...

In your case, the IPDL companies have violated the laws by lending in your state. It is possible that they will be calling you after knowing that you have closed the account. Recite the laws and tell that you are not going to pay anymore. Insist to mark your account PIF and perhaps claim for a refund on the amount you overpaid. Involve your state attorney general if needed.

Thanks Steg. I already filed complaints with the NYS Attorney General. I have also contacted the 2 IPDLs (Oneclickcash and United Cash Loans) and let revoked their rights to debit, wage assignment, etc. I think to be safe, I am also going to send them certified letters on Monday.

A few people on here have told me that these two particular companies that I am dealing with only communicate by e-mail, and I hope that's the case!

Jen, I don't think they can do a thing to you. They are illegal in NY. If you have any doubts, send a pm to MPEREZ56. She had a lot of pdls and is in NY also.
UCL never called me at work. They just emailed. It really helped that I didn't have to talk to them! I just sent them another copy of my letter every time they emailed me!!!

I am from NY and going through this as I write -the first thing I did was to cancel my bank account and opened a new one at another bank - I have not said anything as of yet. I also contacted T&C who I have sent up an payment plan for me to pay back what I borrowed - I beleive my payments will be about 128.00 a month - compared to the over 800.00 I have been paying - As I get the information for T&C - I will also be filling out the complaint forms as well - these type of loans need to be stopped - they hurt the little people who don't have it.
