Tell me about it. I have actually contacted "the office of the comptroller of the currency Bureau". It is the place you go to for complaints against national banks - fun, fun! At this point, I am soo determined to be heard - I will go to anyone who will listen to me. This is ridiculous!

Absolutly - Complain! They can do something to help, and it sucks that you have to find the right person on the right day to get anything done! I had a bank situation very similar to yours . . . . . It gets really frustrating.
Good luck - Be tough and don't take no for an answer this time!

Morningstar - it depends on your bank. Since my bank is Chase (BTW STAY AWAY FROM!!!) which is a nataional bank - so I had to go to the comptroller. Look up your Dept of Financial Institutions if your bank is at the state level.

However, I didn'T get too far with the comptroller anyway. She acted just like the bank did. That what I am doing by faxing/emailing/mailing these companies revoking their right to withdrawal from my account is BEYOND regulation E. I am trying to void a whole contract. She basically treated me like I am some kind of dead-beat who is trying to get out of paying a debt. Finally, after going around and around with her, I plainly said.. "listen - we can sit here and argue about that all night. I am calling you guys SOLELY in the fact that I asked my bank to put some kind of hard block on the account in which they are refusing. On top of them refusing - every time one of these PDLs attempt to put them through it causes a NSF fee from the bank. This keeps happening and I keep getting farther and farther in a hole. I am TRYING to get this under control, and instead of ANYONE being willing to help me - everyone keeps tacking on fees.. and in the end it is not benefiting anyone as NO-ONE is getting any money." At this point, she kind of back-stepped and said she will send me out a formal complaint form and gave me the # to Chase's "executive complaint department." (fancy words huh?) But still, nothing really in the help department there either.

This is unbelievable!! What do we have to do...write our senators!!!! Hey maybe that's not a bad idea..I am planning on writing letters this weekend..the bank again and my next pdl to work on..maybe a note to my senator begging for help...might help??

This is complete crap. Volley, what state are you in? Chase is lying to you. This disgusts me. I am so glad I don't work for them anymore. (I worked for them when they were Bank One.) File that complaint in the link cajun put up. They are just making more and more money off their fees and lining their pockets with your money since they refuse to help you.
Seems my link didn't take,so here it is again. www.fdic.gov

vol, you went TO THE BANK and talked TO THE MANAGER and you still didn't get a block put on your account? Am I understanding this correctly? If that's the case, the manager can stick that "complaint form" right where the sun don't shine and I'd be on the phone with the friggin corporate office. Of course, file complaints as stated by the forum members above, but GOOD GOD. This is the craziest thing I've ever heard.

MORE CHASE INFORMATION: Okay, so I run into my OLD branch manager at Chase at the grocery story (fate?). Anyway, I basically tell her that I wish she was still there, and give her a brief run-down of what has happened. She informs me that these branches DO PROFIT from fees!! She states that it is probably the best source of profit these branches make. In fact, each branch has a VERY LIMITED amount of fee reversals they are allowed to do each month!! This is just down right sick! They actually WANT to profit off of people's misfortunes! Of course, they are going to do anything in their power to keep my account the way it is. So, after this I decided that I am going to go to the branch one more time, plead my case one more time - and then I am just going to let it go. I will go to one of those other banks. This is ridiculous!

You know that everybody complains about the price of gas all the time and how much money these people are making. Well I'll tell you what I read something that stated the Oil companys are making about a 24% profit, but the number one profitable companys are banks coming in at like 48%. Forgive me the % may be of a little but I know there close to what I read.

And the bad part is...banking is one of those things that are difficult to live without. It is almost immpossible to cash your check with out one unless you want to pay high fee's there too...and then the whole issue of paying your bills and shopping..no one uses cash anymore..they all have us between a rock and a hard place!!!
Insane
This is totally insane! I guess this is why the banks give everyone a hard time about "closing" thier account. I can't even use the word I want to right now!!! Vol, your bank is giving you the run around. Go again to the branch, like you said, and if they start spouting their stupidity again (which I have a feeling they will), let them know - to their face - you are going to file complaints. Ask them the corporate office address and phone number and who the president is. Ask them for the Department of Financial Institutions address and phone number. Ask them for ALL KINDS of information and maybe they'll finally get the idea that you mean business. Good Lord!

Well...I have to say...I have posted the issues I had with my bank and not getting any help when I need to close my account..I have written to the corporate offices, the loss prevention pffice and both branches that couldn't/wouldn't help me...it has been almost 3 weeks I believe and I have not heard a word from any of them!!

I am having the exact same nightmare with my bank and I let it get overdrawn in order to close it (well, the bank will). If I have too much crap, I'll just send $50 to them at a time until it's paid up. Otherwise, they can all just BITE ME!!!!

That is my whole point. Why would these banks rather me pull out my check (and my husband's) and just let my account go negative for whatever days it takes so they have to close it? I am coming to them, explaining everything about the situation, and asking them for their help so I can keep the account in good standing and they can keep making money off of me. I just don'T understand the logic behind this treatment. It just does not make sense.

I agree . . . . You'd think they would want to help you so that your account doesn't go way into the red . . . . It's to their benefit!
There is no logic to what they are doing.

Ok, so we had our appointment with the branch manager and tell her what the 2nd fraud guy said... That we need to fill out a restriction form and open a new account. So, she sends us to one of her little guys to open the account so she can "research the form this guy is talking about." Well, we open the new account and she comes back in during the process. She comes back all cheery and says, "Here is the mysterious form that I have never seen before." So, we sign it and supposedly everything is taken care of. Then my husband starts talking to her about the $70 in fees that we got charged for the last time a PDL tried to go through AFTER we revoked their right. She literally refused! Right back to that refusing to reverse fees crap! I know that I really should have just left the bank. However, we are on Chexsystems and we looked into other banks that don'T check it - but most of them are not near us or the type of account that charges a fee for every transaction. So, in the long run it will save us money to stay here. We have only 2 more years for the chexsystems to be clear... and you can bet that we will be at a new bank once that clears!
vol
vol, you really are being raked over the coals at your bank regarding them not removing those fees. However, in your situation, you did the best thing for you. You stayed since you would have had an impossible time finding a new bank. I only hope that things go better and no more pdl debits come out of your new account. I'm sorry you have to pay those stupid fees and they won't credit them back to you. But, like you said, it's cheaper the way you did it - by staying there. And whenever you're clear from the chexsystems, you can feel free to choose any bank you want. I consider this at least a good move for you right now. At least you made a little progress and maybe now your bank account will be "safe", even though it's still with the idiot bank. Congratuations on getting a new account - hopefully free of unauthorized debits and fees and charges. You did the right thing for your situation.

I am glad you got a new account. As I said before, this particular bank is notorious for not reversing fees. When I worked there as Bank One, at first they let us (the CSA II's as we were called) refund fees at our discretion. Then they realized they were losing money because of it and we started having to have a branch manager's approval to reverse fees which hardly EVER happened.
Volley - Some banks use filters on their chex reporting software
Volley - Some banks use filters on their chex reporting software to filter out reports that are older then say 3 years, so it may be worth a try to go to another bank and just give it a try. It's usually the bigger, national banks that will use the filters, but smaller ones do to . . . .
I know it sucks to be denied, but it may be worth a try one day to just go and apply - I have heard that in store banks - Like ones located in a grocery store - Usually have less stict guidelines. I would try one of those if you have any near enough to you.
