AG Questions
Also she strongly advised I should file complaints with the FTC. I haven't done that yet?? Can I do that on line?? How do I find the website?? What will the FTC do??
I will be trying to look up and verify all the address' by Friday when I am to call her back. I hope they do something!!

There it has a link to a complaint form that you can fill out. Make sure you do this because I know personally of a couple members on here that the FTC has personally called regarding their complaints!!! Good luck :)

morningstarr, go to http://www.ftc.gov/ as stated in the above posts. It's under Consumer Protection. Then it's under File A Complaint. You can do it all on line. I highlysuggest filing with the FTC. They do respond. File each pdl separately. Give them the pdl name and the d/b/a name. Tell them your story. Give them all the info. you can. The loan amount, what you paid, if they've been harrassing you, if they haven't responded to you, telephone numbers, conversations, whatever. But do it. FTC.GOV I'm telling you, that's one of the top ones to file a complaint with beside the state AG and the BBB.
But what can they do?? I haven't read much about anything happen
But what can they do?? I haven't read much about anything happening from this...ok, now I am having a down moment..

Mornignstar - even if you don't hear back from any of the gov. agencies - a complaint has been filed! For me, I have filed with every agency I could think of! I figure that if enough complaints are filed that sooner or later someone is going to listen! And they are - slowly but surely - they are listening. You can tell this by the amount of ag's that are starting to tighten the laws in their states. I even e-mailed on the of finacial advisors who has written quite a bit about pdls i our local newspaper who has taken quite an interest in what is happening in my city due to the pdls. My new montra has become complain, complain complain! And cc the pdls with each complaint - that way they know that you are on their case with all of their illegal tatics and outrageous fees. I guarentee you - someone will hear you.

morningstarr, do not have a "down moment". I can't explain EXACTLY what the FTC will do; however, I do know that they receive the complaints (they will send you confirmation that they received it) and they do review each complaint. The more complaints that come in about particular pdl's, whoever, it'll catch their attention. So the more complaints filed, the more the pdl name will keep coming up and they'll act. Also, the more complaints regarding the same problem (pdl's) will also grab their attention. Like irish said, read the posts, morningstarr! These other states are putting all kinds of laws into effect and closing down pdl's because of the number of complaints. What about what just happened in Indiana? You probably read it. They started a "new" law due to FTC complaints regarding pdl's. So.... they do listen, they do act, and results will happen. It just takes them a bit longer. Probably because they do a more indepth investigation into the complaints? I don't know, but PLEASE don't NOT file with them. It's important that you do. File with everyone.

OK...you both have convinced me...I guess I was having a panis attack!! I pretty much keep to myself and don't usually make waves...so this is a new venture for me. But I believe in standing up for our rights!! We may have been not smart in taking the ipdls but I agree that is no reason to take advantage of us!!! I wish I had done all this research before I ever started but then hindsite is always 20/20.
morningstarr
I know what you mean, morningstarr. I don't like to stand out and make a spectacle of myself; however, in this case - think about it this way. You do it all over the computer! You're not looking at anybody. Nobody is looking at you. If you're ticked off, type away like crazy and send it! If you want to complain, get that sucker out and hit send! LOL! You're there with no one judging you or staring at you or waiting for you to do something stupid. So, hit that computer! File those complaints! And I'm a hell of a lot braver in words on paper or computer than I am in person! Believe me! LOL!

I had a PDL call me at work about 5 times a day. I called and left him 3 messages not to call me at work and to send everything to me in writing. I faxed him a verification letter. He lated called me at work and I finally hung up on him. I filed a complaint with the AG, BBB, and FTC (all online).
I received am email back from the FTC stating that they couldn't do anything because a 3rd party wasn't involved. I am will waiting to hear back from the AG and the BBB. As of today, I haven't heard anything from this place. Hopefully, I will get something in writing soon so I can get this taken care of.
fdcpa
I had one of my pdl's tell in in a letter that the fair debt act didn't apply to them because it only applied to 3rd parties. Although, if you do email them, fax them, mail them a letter stating NOT to call your place of employment any longer, they are supposed to abide by your written request. They'll continue to call your other phone number, but they're not supposed to call you at work if requested by you. Me, personally, I would file on line again with the BBB and this time the complaint would be that they are not complying with your request NOT to be contacted at the work place.

Cannr,
I also received something back stating that the fdcpa didnt' apply since they are not a 3rd party as well as the fact that they are not required to follow TN state laws, only the ones of the state they are located in. That is fine, however, they are suppose to conform to the requests not to call you at work. So, I told them that in my new letter that also states that they should be following OK law then, and I cited the laws of OK and the fact that OK still does not allow rollovers, etc and I pointed out the fact that they also are not licensed in OK either. Let's see what they have to say about that one.
blfow
bflow, you are getting TOUGH! Be as ruthless as they are! It's horrible that it' getting to be such a stupid battle, but you're going strong! Let them have it! Dumb **** aren't supposed to call your place of employment once you've told them not to. Then again, why comply with that request when they're broken state laws all over the place, right?
