after a letter to validate a debt what does it mean when a debt collector/ attorney says he has "passed the court date" to a new date?

also when advised as being "a law firm and as such they are not required to be separately licensed in the state of tennessee to collect debts" .

thanks James

thank you for the information.do you happen to know where i can find this law and also the tennessee attorney generals site to report this?

thank james

I don't know about Tennessee, but in most states a law firm and/or attorney doesn't have to be licensed as a collection agency, but they must follow state and federal collection laws. (again, I don't know about Tennessee). If they litigate they must used an attorney licensed by the Tennessee Bar. It sounds like the attorney filed a motion to continue (ie, set another court date).
