Afni Collections agency - How to handle the collector
I went on line and look what I found. Holey Moley!
Check out this link about them.
budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/AFNI.htm or go to budhibbs.com and click on the list of agencies to avoid. This bunch is one oh the worst.
Big junk debt scam of afni collection agency. It was no coincidence that they tried to change the date. Statute of limitations had run out on this in a few months ago if she owes it at all. I am getting tired of sending validation letters to afni collections but here we go again.
Beware of afni collections scam! This is a huge scam by a company that apparently is trying to climb out of thier own financial mess!
afni collections scam
The word needs to get out.
Unfortunately, there are many illegal companies like afni collections in the list. Even if one of them is shut down, it will be a big relief to many people dealing with such crooks.
Be aware of your consumer rights. The collectors will try to intimidate you into paying more, without giving any documentation of your account. You have the laws in your favor to fight against AFNI INC.
afni collections agency complaints
Verizone often hires afni collections for collection purposes. It has become their habit to harass people on old and statute of limitation expired debts. Many a times afni collections call for a debt which you never had. It is preposterous.
When a debt has passed its SOL then no collection agency has the right to harass you. I.e. no collection agency can neither force you to pay the debt nor file any legal action against you.
Send them debt validation letter until and unless they give full information. Best of Luck buddy... :)
dealing with afni collections
I think you should send second validation letter and mention in it that you don't want verification but validation of the debt. Information provided by AFNI collection agency must come from Verizone and not afni inc. Make it sure that you are sending the letter through a certified mail return receipt requested.

collection letter from afni inc
I received a collection letter from afni collection agency a month ago claiming that I owe for a landline phone bill. The problem I have is that the debt was accrued early 2002, and i wasn't 18 yet. I obviously didn't open that phone acct due to the fact that I was a minor. I have never received any correspondence from the phone company in all this time regarding this matter and it has been 6 years. And now i receive a letter requesting the debt be paid. I called afni collections to find out when this debt had occured, and when the guy found out that I wasn't 18 at the time, he was quick to try and get me to pay him by check or card. They also stated that this hadn't been reported to my credit yet, and wouldn't be if I got this matter taken care of. I have not sent any money or given any banking info to these folks.
Can they do anything after 6 years and considering the fact that I was not 18 at the time?
afni collections?
Don't send them any money, send AFNI COLLECTIONS INC a DV letter instead. I would try to find what phone company they are collecting for and call to find out who opened the account in your name. There may be some ID theft going on here.
Is AFNI INC same as Anderson Financial Network???
Is AFNI Collections the same company as Anderson Financial Network???
I have been watching my credit reports and I noticied that this company just recently reported on my credit file for an outstanding debt they say I hade with nextel.
AFNI collections INC is harassing me for a Cingular debt
AFNI Inc is harassing the shit outta me and asking for a statute of limitations expired Cingular debt. Is there any way to kick their butt?
Afni collections agency debt has passed SOL
If this debt of Afni collections is past SOL, then they have no legal teeth to collect. They still have the right to ask and you have the right to send a full Cease Comm FOAD letter to them.
Afni collections scam
I received the same letter regarding a t-mobile bill. I am a business owner...a collection agency..go figure. Just wante to pass along a little info on AFNI INC. In most cases the debt is out of statute but, if you pay even a penny the debt renews itself...so don't pay! Simply send them a cease and desist letter and send it certified. If they contact you again after receiving the letter you now have the right to sue. Good luck
Anfi collections scam
I also just received an Anfi letter about a $3140.00 bill from t-mobile on an account I've never had. Researching and reading the entries here has really helped guide me to what action to take. Two questions: 1) do I skip sending a request for validation letter and go directly to a Cease and Desist letter? It seems unnecessary to request validation for an account I've never contracted for but I want to make sure I do everything correctly so these a**holes won't continue to make trouble and possibly put a black mark on my present excellent credit record. 2) Do I also send a copy of any correspondence to governmental agencies, and if so, who should be included?

You could talk to a lawyer, at naca.net who specializes in the fdcpa and the FCRA. But only if after first contact from the collection agency you requested validation within the first 30 days.
The other thing you can do is what I did. I sent the letter and disputed my credit report after 30 days and it came back verified. 30 days later I disputed it again, same thing. I then waited 5 months disputed the entry and it was removed, and this was one of the worst debt collectors in the industry.
Give it time cause right now a lawsuit against them is pointless, there are not enough violations. Let them really break the law and make it suit worthy. Better yet, if they sue you, counter sue them and it saves you the money to file a suit against them. SAVE YOUR EVIDENCE!!!!!!!!!!
T-Mobile and AFNI
I just went through the same thing. I had Voicestream in 2002 and canceled it. 2 Months ago I received a bill from AFNI for a T-Mobile account. AFNI and T-Mobile both refused to provide validation of debt.
I wrote to their main offices in NM and WA along with filing complaints in numerous Attorney General's Offices. Check out Rippoffreport.com

AFNI collection bogus debt
I just recieved a letter from AFNI regarding a debt with Verizon dating back to 2001. Despite the fact this debt was resolved in 2001 when I moved, they demanded verification of payment. I told them I do not have any records dating back that far as I destroy records after 5 years according to IRS Rules. I also understand this scenario is is not unique and many others in various states are receiving these letters too. It appears this is a new form of extortion used by companies and collection agencies in rough times. In my case, they also ran a credit search on me to obtain my SS# and correct address which is against the law without your written permission. So, if anyone esle is aware of this happening to them too, when you send the letter, let them know you are aware of this and that they are in voilation of the law. I hope this helps others and this company will soon be a memory.
Just adding my voice...
I have TWO things on my credit for the same account from AFNI. It's for a Nextel account I never had. I've disputed them like 3 times and each time the dispute comes back as "has been verified that this item has been reported correctly". In other words, the CA said "hey is this reported right?" and AFNI says "yep" I haven't had a nextel phone in 9 years and when I left I had a zero balance. I'll be submitting my debt validation letter to them today.

The amount of time to report on a credit report is different. It also goes from the date of last payment plus 180 days I think, usually 7.5 years is the max it can stay on your credit report.
EquiFax and ANSI
I was just notified by my credit monitoring service that EquiFax posted a negative account on my credit history and the report supposedly came from ANSI. Since it appears well known that this firm is not reputable is there any liability on the part of EquiFax for allowing them to post erroneous information? I want to sue the jerks with the deepest pockets.

In order to sue for FCRA violations I am pretty sure you need to dispute the debt and entry first. If they verify inaccurate information, that is when you can sue them. The violations can be confusing so I think it is best to get a good attorney familiar with the FDCPA and the FCRA. They will get the maximum allowed.
To find an attorney in your area, go to www.naca.net. The most you might have to pay is the filing fee to sue them. You get that back if you win and the debt collector pays your attorney fees.

I just received a bill this morning and couldn't even think of ever having an account with qwest! I finally remembered the nearly five year old landline I had with an old boyfriend. they only wanted half to call it good! Wierd I have never been given a collection call or letter until now, and decided to google afni! I'm glad I did!
The letter said to go online with my account# and last four digits of my social. But, no info as to time frame or address I lived in over four years ago!
How did they find me? I don't even have the same last name anymore! Do I have to do something about this scam in the form of a small bill to fix my credit? How do I go about this

I just paid off a old telephone bill that AFNI claimed I owed. I asked them to send me my last bill to validate the debt. I just couldn't remember being that it was a old residence. I did call the local telephone company just to see what they had on record. Turned out they were able to confirm what AFNI was claiming. I ended up settling on the debt BECAUSE it was showing up my credit report. From my experiences w/AFNI it seemed to be valid. I hope this helps somewhat.

My line was through QWEST too. To be honest I don't even remember having a old past due account or getting anything from Qwest. It is a old account, but like I said I called Qwest right away. They did confirm that I owed a balance and that it was sold off to AFNI for the exact amount. I would call Qwest asap. They should be able to verify what you may or may not owe.

I was doing a research on a different agency, but decided to look up AFNI as well. They actually came up. I guess they are licensed in my state...Oregon.

I just received a collection letter as well for a Verizon bill. This was from 2002 in Buffalo NY, I called to find out what it was about and they told me it was for a line that started in June of 2000 and was disconnected in Jan. of 2002. The best part is I have lived in Rochester NY (just over an hour away) since March of 2000.
The odd thing is I did live in Buffalo for most of my life and did have a landline with Verizon until March but it was a different number. So I am not sure if someone when through my trash after I moved and somehow found my SS# or what. But I have sent a letter to dispute the bill along with a copy of my lease for when I moved here to Rochester. I will update this site after I hear back from them.

Have you pulled your credit reports recently to look for other signs of fraudulent activity? You might want to start researching Identity Theft as well. If this is indeed IDT, you need to get moving on it so you can get it off your reports.
How do you know which address to send the DV Letter to?
The notice I received from AFNI has 404 Brock Drive PO Box 3427, Bloomington, IL 61702-3427. So would I send it to the physical address or to the PO Box? If I send it to the PO Box, they won't be able to sign for it, would they? I also looked them up at BBBOnline, and the address they have is 404 Brock Dr Bloomington, IL 61701-2654. The 30 day mark is coming up, and I don't want this to go to the wrong address.
Also, Nascar Devil, I live in Texas and was wondering how do I reference Chapter 392 of the Texas Finance Code? Do I just state that according to this, you have to post a bond with the Texas SOS? I tried to look them up via your link, and didn't find them there at all. Thanks!

Should I be safe and send multiples, one to the 61701 zip, and another to the 61702 zip? The PO Box?

So if I had a bill from 2005 and I have been disputing it ever since then under SOL can I get it removed. I had Sprint long distance but Verizon blocked the service so I canceled with Sprint and they continued to charge me for three months, I called Sprint to dispute it and told them to check their records and see that the service had not even been used. They claim it was my responsibility to verify that it had been canceled when I requested it. I said my verification that it was not came when I received a new bill at which time I requested again it be canceled. It was finally canceled by them for non payment three months after the initial request was made.

It is my understanding that the SOL in CA is only 4 years. I am confused. So, I guess my real question was since it shouldn't have been there in the first place, what can i do to get it removed? I have tried going through a dispute with the Credit Bureaus. Didn't work.

SOL is the time limit to file a lawsuit, has nothing to do with the time limit on reporting. In every state the credit reporting period is 7.6 years. You will have to send debt validation letters to whoever is on your credit report that you know you don't owe. Then after that, dispute it with your credit reports in writing.
KENDALL<<<
You most likely will not get it removed, it will show paid charge off or similar till the credit reporting period of 7.6 years is up.
