I received a letter from the Law Office of Wilfred E Briesemeister (sp?) stating they had a judgement on my Bank of America credit card. The original credit limit was $1500. This account was turned over to CACH LLC and the amount they want is $4800, four times the amount. not Long ago, I got my credit report and Bank of America was listed with an outstanding balance of $0. When I got it yesterday, it was not there at all, nor was CACH LLC. I called the lawyer yesterday, and he offered settlement for $3000. I cannot afford that. I am a full time college student and I make $800 a month. I own no property, no car, no assets whatsoever other than a small checking account. My job is through a temporary staffing service. I'm aware there is not a whole lot I can do in this situation. How would all of you say I should proceed on this?

Do one thing. Go and check with the local county where this case is filed. You will figure out whether this case is legal. The court usually sends summons before any company tries to sue you. Did you get any such legal papers from the sheriff? Also, if this is a legitimate judgment, it should be listed in your credit copy.

It's also possible that they are using a scare tactic to get your money. I know there are companies that will issue fake legal papers just to make you feel that you have legal proceedings and you are going to be garnished soon. Be careful and research thoroughly before sending them any money.
