Blast from the Past with a Success Story!!!
Awhile ago, before I even came to this site, I had quite a large amount of debt for a college student to handle only working part time. I think I had about 6 credit cards and I owed close to eight thousand dollars in credit card debt.
Well, at the end of 2006, I graduated from college, and I got a new job with a bank. As of today...I have one small credit card I keep open in case of emergencies and paid all the rest of the cards off, except the big one with $3500 on it. Well, since I work for a bank now....I was able to get a loan...at a much lower rate and paid off the big card....I AM VERY EXCITED!!! I am actually able to SAVE MONEY per month and not have to worry...it is amazing.
I also got to see my credit IMPROVE. I was able to get my free credit score and number from Trans Union...and I now have a score of 732 (up from the low to mid 600s) and I believe my Equifax is up in the mid to high 600s also, though I hear most lenders prefer transunion? Not sure really.
Just thought I would share the success of getting rid of the evil cards. Now to payoff the student loans...
Congratulations!! This is very inspirational for everyone to see

Congrats Zachman
From your post, I find you a lot relaxed. It's very good to know that you are now able to save money and from this portion, you can pay your student loans. Then you will be completely debt free. I am so happy for you; good days are round the corner :)

I am very excited. And when I first signed up on this forum, I thought it was impsossible to get turned right side up again and into the right the direction. The feeling of being able to write a check for an amount I never thought possible is AWESOME. And knowing it was taking a credit card down to a zero balance is even better. It is priceless.
Well, to those of you out there who are thinking thats it's the end, like I did and think that you will never come from underneath it, you can...
You just really need to get it together, because I said to myself that if I didn't get it togther, I am not going to get anywhere with this burden of debt. I really had to focus. I had to make a career/job change in order for it to work. There was no question about it. I really encourage all of you in these situations to do the same thing too. It's hard being 21 or 22 years old and not being able to go out and blow cash or run up the credit card on the weekends with friends, but I had to make sacrifices to get over this burden. Yes, I am not comepletely debt free, but I found a way to do it, and to do it myself without help and having to pay for that help from a company.
Anything is possible....that's what I say.
