I received a letter from West Asset Managment today for a 10K debt to Bank of America. They said they acquired the debt from BOA. I remember having this account but the account number that West has is wrong. I have 2 questions.

1) Does West have a record of sueing people for not paying?

2) Do they usually go away if you ask them to validate the debt and they can't? It says I have 30 days to validate the debt. I am hesitant to because in the past whenever I ask for debt validation I get sued.

Thanks for any advice.

Are you sure that the account number given by west asset management is wrong? I mean do you have any proof from your side to prove their info is wrong. You must dispute their info and get it corrected. Have you checked the other details given about your debt?

Make sure that you dispute within the 30 days period. Otherwise the debt will become valid. No company should sue you unless they prove their information is correct. You should be always prepared with copy of your dispute letter to show to the judge.
