left the UK after 6 years

Hi All,

i have left the UK after living there for over 6 years. I have a dect of 6k. is it possible for them to collect from me over here in the US? i do want to pay this but i can not at the moment. I will call and settle with a full and final payment in a years time.
Can a UK agency sell the debt to an American Collection Agency? I don't suppose 6k is worth their time to do that but i am not sure...

They may have my address in the US i am not sure i know they have my Spanish passport (i also have an American one). Any help would be appreaciated. i would like to keep this debt in the UK and not have it affect my credit in America. Thanks!

Before I say anything, I would like to know if you have left UK permanently or not? If so, then you will have to acquire a new credit report in the US and thus UK debt will not cause any harm on it as per the FCRA

If you are planning to return to UK later, then your creditors will issue some notice in your name and take this matter to the court.

There is one more thing that requires attention to the actions of the creditors and the collection agencies. Some of them have their networks outside countries and get information from banks etc. They contact their branches in order to recover a debt from the consumer. So, you should always be careful from this point.

As I said earlier, some creditors and collection agencies have their network outside countries, revealing your information of bank accounts might hurt you in the later stage if they involve in unfair tricks. Money gram will be the best method to send payments for this purpose.
