Defaulted Loans $39000+is direct Loan the best way?

I have 8 loans, 5 of which are Staffords with the Dept. of Education. some are subsidized and some are not. 2 of my loans are through Texas Garunteed(also staffords 1 subsidized and 1 not.) The other was purchased by Sallie Mae from the finance authority of Maine. 7 yrs. ago I was diagnosed with chronic anxiety and severe panic disorder with agorophobia and have only been able to work for 30 days in 7 yrs. I am married and my husband has to file injured spouse to protect his part of our tax return each year. I want to get these paid and have a direct loan consolidation form currently here. How do I find out how much the payments will be? This form is also a promissary note and husband is scared to sign it without knowing what the monthly pymnts will be. Our yearly gross adjusted income is about $40,000. If he signs this can they garnish his money or sue him? the debts are solely mine with no co-signers. also does anyone have a clue what the pymnts might be? Thank you ever so much....really desperate here!

I am new here so I just realized my mistake. But I am still going to leave it postwed here also because it is part of my story. It is very hard for me to organize things since becoming ill. 7 yrs. ago while in school I carried a 3.98 gpa...and now can't even figure out the best way to go about consolidation......thanks for reading and listening.....any help would be great!

Thank you so much for your response. It really meant a lot that someone even said anything. And I have really experienced a small miracle through this site.

I was contacted by a debt counselor and got some great advice.

I have learned a lot in the last 2 days!! But the best feeling is knowing that I am not alone!!

You are not alone with your debt problems. Remember, when you write something here, there are many others going through your post. You can relate with someone else and they can relate with you. By communicating with others, answers to different problems can be worked out. Don't feel that you are the only one going through this mess. My situation is no better with all the credit card debts. But at least I am happy that I don't have student loan in my back.

Moondanzer, you know that I have welcomed you already, but I did not know of your health problems. I don't have much time to read all of the posts here. I don't blame our husband because for thinking they might be able to come after him, and I wouldn't sign anything on which I wouldn't know what the monthly payments would be.
