Do I ask Ellis Crosby to validate my debt?

I just received a phone call from an investigator form Ellis Crosby and Associates that said I had two payday loans outstanding with them and that I had charges being filed against me at 12:00 today. I told them I knew what she was saying but that I also knew that they were under suspension. She informed me that they were not under suspension because if they were then she wouldn't be able to contact me. She said I had to call back by 12 today with an arrangement or they were filing charges against me. She said the balance on one with the out of court restitution was $800 and the other was $560. These two loans total only equaled $500. So what do I do? I paid them $560 3 days ago for a loan I had. The original amount of that loan was $260. Do I call them back or what do I do at this point. They said I could have my attorney contact them but they would give my attorney the same information. Please someone let me know the best way to handle this? Are they really under suspension??? Do I call them and have them validate the debt?
Thank you

Please file a complaint with the Florida Attorney General's office, You can look him up on Yahoo, then go to Consumers and it gives you an option to file a complint. I know of 15 people who have already filed complaints, please everyone file a complaint, this is the only way the goverment will catch them!

I wouldn't worry about they called me on Monday 7/25/05 giving me until 4:45pm, then on Thursday 7/28/05 at noon saying the sheriff would be at my place of employment in a few hours, when I told him I had contacted my lawyer he hung up on me. So I was suppose to be gone by yesterday but I am still here, I would just read all the messages about them and take theie advice that what i did there is some really great information on this site.

Hope that helps
angie

Ps after you read the messages you should feel a lot better I know I did. :D

Are they really under suspension? If so can they call you during this time? How do I get them to stop harassing me at work? Also, I just stumbled across this website on the web, so how do you know all of the things people are saying are true? I just filed a complaint with the Attorney General of Florida...is there anything else I need to do?

Thank you for your input

I took the advice off this board and filed a complaint with the BBB, FTC, and the Flordia's State Bar, I also called the ACA organization and there membership has been suspened for 90 days effective 6/1/05 (think that date is right you may need to search the boards to be sure) and I filed a complaint with them, I wrote them a letter telling them not to call me at work and that I have already contacted a lawyer about this I emailed the letter and I am going to mail a copy and keep copies for myself and the lawyer, but my lawyer did tell me that each time they call that I could sue them for up to $2000.00 so you may want to call a lawyer my lawyer also said that he thinks if I do this he can just get them to erase the debt, but they are breaking alot of the fdcpa laws. Hope that helps.

Angie :D

I just received another call from them. I asked them to validate the debt. She told me that they were not a collection agency and that she didn't have to discuss the validity of the debt with me. I told her I had talked with my attorney and she said fine have your attorney call me and I will tell him the same thing and don't call back unless you have a confirmation number and she hung up on me. So now what recourse do I have. I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General in FLorida. another thing I can't call her back with the confirmation she didn't give me any information other than the amount she wanted me to send...but not where to send it or anything like that.

They are a collection agency they are using whatever tactics they can to scare people to get them to send money when they want it, but if you confront them about it they do give an excuse, but my thought is this if it was an lawyer calling I really don't think they would hang up on you. I am just going to continue to excerise my rights maybe some others will have som e input for you but I know they are a collection agency, but I wrote letter to them asking to have the debt validated and each time they refuse something thats only hurting their case they are going to have a ton of lawsuits against them.

I actually just went to Yahoo and typed their name in and I just clicked on one that had a list of collection agencies I can't remember the site right now.

I also received my response today from the FTC saying that they will look further into this. So that is a start.

Hope this helps you.

Try not to stress youself to much life is too short for that :D

How long ago did you file a complaint with the FTC? I filed one online earlier today. I'm going to file one with the BBB of Florida. So did you make arrangements to pay your debt or are you not doing anything right now? If you aren't doing anything...can they do anything to you? Can they have your wages garnished?

Hi mdow315

As Ellis Crosby is barred from doing business, you do not have to worry paying them for the time being. You can pull your latest credit report to know the latest standing of your account and make necessary arrangements with your creditors.

After you have filed a complaint at the FTC, BBB, they will inform you through mail that they are looking into your case and will take immediate action to solve this matter.

Remember this company is in Florida!
The Attorney General's Office in Florida has been trying to get as many people to contact them about this so they can build a case.
Call Summer Saladino
Economic Crimes office of the Attorney General
Phone: (904) 348- 2720

She is working with me on this and suggested i encourage all victims to contact her.
PLEASE contact her!

I spoke with Summer today and indeed they are working on a case against them but they need as many people as possible to contact her.!
